Not who I would pick but I agree that if the guy we like isn't there, I'd be more than open to trading down into later teens if it meant getting another first aswell

Agreed, just because he's young and lanky doesn't mean he's good. I think Ayo Dosunmu would be what Ziare aspires to become.

If they trade down, it's not for a 1 and done, it'll be for a player that has played at least 2 years of college or pro that has proven themselves or at minimum shown an upward trajectory of development.

https://raptorsrapture.com/2021/05/09/toronto-raptors-draft-scouting-australian-point-guard-josh-giddey/

Giddey with a triple-double for the fans, for a clutch win in OT!!!

With NBA scouts in attendance, including Toronto Raptors Director of Global Scouting Patrick Engelbrecht, Giddey recorded 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, giving him a third triple-double in his last four games. Giddey is showing off all of the traits that could entice the Raptors to pull the trigger and select him.

Well I'm all about potential and he has it. There's a lot of factors that went into Ziaire having a sub par season this year and we are a great development team. There's a bit of a Cam reddish aspect to him only difference is Cam always looked uninterested and motivated I don't get that from Ziaire

Sato is a good comparison. I don't know if that's a guy we should pick at 7 though.

He could be Lamelo with less flare too. Even if that was the case, would he start on Toronto? Maybe not.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the Tankathon simulator. I just noticed that during it's sim, I see the players also allign according to which team ends up where. I guess they have a big board ranking for each lottery team's possible selections!!!

The thing is, Lamelo is Lamelo because of that flare and confidence.

Definitely not. I was pretty unimpressed, and I didn't see any plays that got me out of my seat. I thought LaMelo was going to be a certified bust, but at least with him I saw some passes that he made in the NBL that left me wide eyed. He's just so much more dangerous with his passing with NBA athletes around him that can go up for lobs. The real question surrounding Melo was, can he improve his shot selection? And the answer so far has been a resounding Yes.

Speaking of International prospects, where do you guys stand on this 18 year old kid out of Belgium, Vrenz Bleijenbergh? I don't think he's been discussed but apparently he's rising up many draft boards.

This kid is a unicorn in the mold of Lamar Odom. I don't know what level of competition he's facing, but the fluidity that he has at his size is eye popping.

It will be very interesting/frustrating to see where they go if they do end up picking 7th in a 6 player draft.

But that will make scouting the rest of the board an interesting experience since they're all sort of imperfect prospects compared to Cade/Mobley/Green/Suggs/Barnes/Kuminga who are the elite prospects in this draft.

I see a lot of places having Keon Johnson going to us and though it wouldn't be my fave pick and we don't know if they're even interested in him as a prospect, but I can see them really liking his defensive potential. He and Fred or Malachi as a backcourt would absolutely hound players. But ultimately, his busted shot is a giant red flag. He's a guy you'd have no problem finding in the 2nd, but in the top 10? That's a bit high for someone that's like a rich man's Bembry type, right? I guess people are drawn to the athleticism.

I'd be fine with Moody. Don't overthink it. Shooting and size goes a long way. And he's still pretty young. Seems like a guy like him drops in every draft and people will look back wondering how that happened.

Not too bad paired with another 3+D guy in OG.

I feel it’s the easiest it’s ever been to fix a jumpshot. Having the skill and willingness to create one is something you can’t teach or easily find. Keon has shown ability to knock around downlow in the post, is great going downhill because of his athleticism and has a pull up midrange J he is confident in. He was okay as a catch and shoot 3 guy but currently has a hitch in his shot that prevents him from pulling up off the dribble from deep. Watching his highlights I love how he looks for his shot and is comfortable getting to the rim and his defensive potential is insane. We don’t have any above the rim guards with Norm gone let alone any that are comfortable pulling up to score from midrange.

Drafting him would put him as our 2 off the bench and give him an opportunity to develop as a scorer against bench players. Moody look like Mikal Bridges. Nice utility guy but with our possibly highest pick in over a decade I think we should swing for the fences.

Show of hands, how many people would be comfortable trading back if the guys you want our pick aren't there?

Secondary question, are the Knicks the only trade back option (picks 21, 23, and 32) or should we trade with a team not as farm down (the WIzards at 12, for instance) for their 2021 pick + maybe a future first or the option to switch picks in a future draft?

Normally I like trading back for value.

But this draft seems particularly talented, and we won’t be this high again in the near future (if things go according to Hoyle). Swing for the fences!

In terms of top 5.
Cade
Green
Mobley
Sugggs
Kuminga

I probably have Kuminga at the bottom. Yeah, there's two-way potential at the wing with him, but his offense looks like it'll hold him back. He's definitely not the natural scorer/creator/athlete Green is( godly first step). He's not the leader/play maker like Cade or Suggs are. While Mobley already shows glimpses of ELITE defense with an evolving inside/outside game. I know he has a lot of fans on here and the draft board. Maybe someone who's all in on Kuminga could give me a better perspective.

I think this could be a good draft to trade down because it's pretty deep. Which players projected in the first round fit the Raps culture?

It's not often this team gets to pick so high in the draft. You keep the pick, target BPA and go from there. Don't squander an opportunity to select from where you end up in the lotto.

OKC has the Miami pick, but they are unlikely to trade their own pick, meaning 17 & 33
Houston has Portland and Milwaukee, which are 22 and 24

I am not sure we need multiple picks, since we got a lot of young talents already. Our problem has been closing games, so I prefer to have more vets than rookies.
I would keep the pick if we cannot maintain at the lottery spots (at most trade down by 10) [Isaiah Jackson, Usman Garuba, Ziaire Williams, Kai Jones].

Too dumb to just sit them out, finally get a couple of legit young stars and not another Wiggins but nope they remain the same ol incompetent franchise...meanwhile a competent one takes advantage of it. Please lawd let us leap frog them in the draft.

I rather have the Warriors than the Wolfs getting a better pick.
Even Wiggins is playing better as a Warriors, that said about the incompetent franchise of the Wolfs, wasting some of those talents the whole time.

Thanks for the great response! You make some very reasonable points there and that's part of the beauty and frustration of judging these 2nd tierish prospects, it's sort of beauty (or beast in the eye of the beholder type of thing.

I see all of what you're saying about Johnson, he is a bulldog and that defense would be insane. But idk, sometime the shot is fixable and sometimes it's not. And I can't get over that in my mind because I've seen those sort of Josh Jackson/MKG types fail to launch. I suppose I rather not have that problem.

And to be fair, Moody also has pretty good defensive potential and I don't think adding a solid Mikal Bridges type at 7 would be the end of the world, though I think his potential may be higher than that. He is only 19 after all.

But overall, I think these are the conversations we should be having as that's more realistic. We know the consensus top guys, but the next crop (where we may be drafting) hasn't been expounded upon too much because everyone is dreaming on the top 3/4 guys.
