I dont think Scottie will be a super star, but his ceiling is still very high and fits as a very nice building block in a contender team. We just need more prospects that fills our other needs without gaping holes in their games.

I love Scottie, that wasn't a dig at him, just a dig at Masai's philosophy. I think he forgets that it goes both ways, sometimes a naturally talented scorer can learn defence, it doesn't always have to be the other way around.

Especially now that we have a core of very good defenders.

Barnes can develop into a superstar if we stop treating him like he’s Kyle Anderson and actually give him the in game reps and opportunities. Similar to how we were doing it earlier in the season. We also run like no plays for him. Hopefully these things get fixed next season and beyond.

They're quite a bit better with Lonzo and Caruso but it's not a terrible match up for us. Our length bothers them.

Oh yeah for sure, Lonzo and Caruso are definitely important pieces. But neither of them are as good as Fred. Our bench needs to get better and if it doesn't then that'd likely be the difference. But our starters are better as a whole especially when it comes to playoff basketball. Vucevic, Lavine and Derozan are a comically bad top 3 and I just don't see them having much success in the playoffs.

I'm confident they will be able to acquire a solid piece at the trade deadline. We have the pieces to get one without touching our core 5.

Gonna need to make an amendment to The Pecking Order for that to happen.

Geez. Sharpe's stock spiking up. Same with Benedict.

Paolo...meh...

Mathurin and Sharpe are for sure going to go high. Hardy is also too low in tankathon’ s mock, I’m almost sure that some team will pick him earlier than 17-18.

Maybe it's still early...but goddamn there are a bunch of nice players in the draft that could really help the Raps going forward.

but after that stretch, the trade deadline will be over and Masai has likely made a decision on which direction we go: playoffs or lottery

Especially when you consider Nurse plays our best players 40+ minutes while virtually every other team plays their best players regular starter rotation minutes. This advantage goes out the window in the playoffs mind you.

Until the trade deadline.

If we are below .500 at that point, there is no reason to add pieces and start thinking about selling. We should win 2-3 of those games but if we go on a 5-6 game losing streak right before the deadline, the tank for the rest of the season would be logical.

Adding a top 10 pick might be too good to pass up. And as we know, there even have been teams moving from like 11 to 4 in the lottery. Add another high end talent to the core and then we are ready to roll.

And the Raptors at worst case would find a very good rotational player, most likely future starter and maybe Allstar.

Isn't there still like 30 games left after this stretch? I see 3 wins in that 7 game stretch with a possibility for 4. Atlanta (2), Charlotte and OKC and Miami at home who we just played really tough without GTJ and Scottie. Why would Masai pull the plug before the easiest stretch of the season? That would make absolutely no sense especially when we are a .500 team despite everything that has happened this year.

Where is the high end talent in this draft?

Johnny Davis is really high up in a lot of mocks but also in our range in some mocks. He’s one of those guys that’ll fluctuate a lot from being top 5 to top 10 depending on how the season and combine goes.

But if we’re strictly basing it off of the college season so far he has easily been a top 5 player in the ncaa.

Because he would believe in his abilities to evaluate and also in the need of talent infusion especially in terms of shot creators and bench.

He has 2 more weeks to evaluate where this team stands and this stretch might just decide it.

Don’t be surprised they win most of those games. This is a team that rises against good teams and gets stomped against awful teams
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

He already knows what he has. An excellent starting lineup with the worst bench in the entire league. We have 23 wins this year which is amazing considering how many games our guys have missed. We are also one of the youngest teams in the league. If an opportunity presents itself to get a solid, young piece moving forward then you best believe Masai will take that over drafting a mystery box in a weak draft.

It's not a weak draft. And if you can get a young, promising player without trading your core players it's great but also unlikely.

Toronto's best chance at another incredible core piece moving forward is a lotto pick.
