I did this to your logo, to make it look more like a Huskie and less like a Wolf:

Maybe it will inspire more ideas to build on it.

Feminine? Half the teams in MLB use a similar font. It's extremely classy and exudes a historic vibe.

LOVE the leaf idea. Fantastic stuff, and it puts too rest the dire wolf complaints. Maybe get rid of the text or rework it as I feel it makes the logo too busy.

Overall, I'm in the keep them as the Raptors camp. But nice work regardless. Very professional and inspiring.

Exactly. In terms of font, these look like MLB jerseys to me.

Baseball in general is less of a contact sport and less aggressive by nature.

I'd argue that MLB draws a different crowd, in terms of spectators and participants. Yes, I know that a lot of people on these boards also follow baseball, but in general I consider baseball to be more of a cerebral game. Nothing wrong with that, it just has a different vibe.

I'd like to see a Raptor jersey done with that kind of simplicity. But instead of blue and white use red and white or purple and white.

I think he can achieve the same effect as this Huskie jersey with the Raptors name.

Los Manos wrote:So I've spent a few days working on a Toronto Huskies re-brand with main logo and two secondary logo's along with home and away uniforms. The designs are very rough around the edges (most of it is hand-drawn and yet to be properly vectored) but I've spent long enough staring at it and need to now throw it open to the opinion of you guys and get some feedback before further developing it.

Tell me what you like, what you don't like and your conversation can guide me some and hopefully a bit of collaboration will push through a finished set of designs that make everyone happy.

I am a graphic designer but I don't ever get a chance to do anything sports-related so little side projects like this can be a lot of fun. You never know, maybe someone takes notice once we're done putting together a polished branding package that gets fan approval.

So go for it, rip it or praise it, let me know your thoughts.

(p.s. Mods, I know there are a few Huskies related threads on the front page but please keep this one separate as I hope to keep returning to it as I progress with the project. thanks)

not an easy person to please but i **** with this.

design shows respect for history, appreciation for subtlety and overall a good sense of aesthetic.

this is the first jersey that looks like it was designed by an adult and dude is the only poster thus far who deserves to be recognized by MLSE.

respects but not going balls deep on this. all you artists need to get on this level and contribute more to the pool.

Lol. This is the second time I've seen someone respond to the Huskies name with the idiotic notion that players will suddenly think Toronto is colder than it actually is. They've all been here before. Do people really think they are stupid enough to suddenly change their opinion of the city based on the name of a sports team? lol

That is a lot of "lol'ing" for someone arguing against a fictional argument that I did not say.

Do you not think that connotation matters when they are trying to 'brand' their product?

I was agreeing with you and laughing at the comment you responded to. And I think it's a little condescending to assume a person would change his opinion of the climate of a place he has been before because of the name of a sports team. We are curretnly named the Raptors and I don't think people expect to see a prehistoric chicken like dinosaur running around town.

I think this would look and sound better if the name were Titans instead....but again love the design.

You are confused, because I was the original comment (and you were laughing at incorrectly)

You are presenting a strawman (people changing their opinion of climate) argument, and an appeal to ridicule (dinosaur stuff)

I did not say anything about a person is going to change their opinion of a place because of the name of a team. You are putting words into my mouth, and arguing against something I never said. I said that the name Huskies in my view holds certain connotations (cold, north) that also happen to be negative associations people have with Toronto. If they are changing their name, it is because they are re-branding the team. Branding is not some willy-nilly thing where you just pick whatever name you feel like. You are doing it in an effort to appeal to the market. And, the connotations that come along with a word, and thoughts that pop into your consumers head when they hear your brand name matter with branding.

For an extreme example, If a toilet paper company decided to call their toilet paper brand 'Brown', it is going to put a certain thought into consumers head instead of the 'cottony' image that they try and portray. Now obviously 'Huskies' isn't to that extend of horrible branding, but having a market think of the word 'cold' or 'north' when they think of your team name is something worth discussing, and hardly 'lol' worthy.

Some people will recognize my user name from another site many, many years ago. I finally registered to start a topic raptors vs huskies which has since started.

Daily reader but first time poster to realgm.

I wasn't but now am very against a name change with a valid argument to back up my reason but seriously...

This design is just sick!!! plain and simple. I would change the name to get the boys in this jersey.

I too, agree with many other that I am not a huge fan of the actual huskies head logo but the rest is amazing.

The Font, Colour, secondary ball/leaf logo. The trim. It's all beautiful.

Tweak the head and run with it bro!!!!!!

---A side not. Can you use this exact theme, colours and fonts but stick with the Raptors name???--- we are the RAPS

Congrats on the best ones yet IMO!

I like the name Raptors... It would take me a very long time to get used to anything else... **** i'd probably still call them the Raptors even if they changed their name

JV, weird request/suggestion but in the maple leaf/basketball logo do you think you could put the lower half basketball more like this:

Image

The reason I say this is because when you look at how you have the angle that the lower half basketball is at right now, (Looking down into the ball) in blue and white, it almost looks like looking into a pair of super short blue shorts with the white lines serving as shorts pockets. That, or the kinds of underwear we all used get in our stockings on Christmas as kids... If you turn the basketball lines in the direction of the image above (Obviously more leveled) it won't look like that because the lines will appear different.

It's just because of the 3D aspect, the angle you chose, the way those particular basketball ball lines are going, and the color scheme. Also, I've been staring at these logos a long time now trying to come up with constructive criticisms and figured I might as well share it since even a slight tweak would remove that entirely.

You could also just remove the 3D aspect entirely of the ball just have the basketball angle more straight-on (so that the line was right across) and more flat it won't look like that all. It's just that it seems strange to be looking inside half a basketball. with no depth and having a maple leaf coming out with a logo on it. It's tough to make sense of it all.

I'm aware that the Canada basketball logo also chose to put their lines the same way but because the basketball lines there go all the way through the maple leaf it removes the shorts look a lot.
