No they absolutely would not have. They only have roughly $18-$20 million they could offer before they get into the tax. You don’t pay tax, this year, for Serge Ibaka.

1 yr 20m is still double what the Clippers are paying him...so it's clearly not about the money for Ibaka

It’s the same guaranteed money, so if he suffers a career ending injury this year he didn’t leave any money on the table. Add in the LA factor and the fact that they’re closer to a championship than we are and it’s really not that difficult to understand.

Ibaka his kind of poised for a regression. He has a lot of miles from playing deep into the playoffs.
Time to get some more young bigs into the pipeline. I also want Gasol back as a de facto player/big man coach.
Kyle fits into the youth movement because he’s a true leader/teacher. Ibaka doesn’t seem like he influences a team from a mentorship or teaching perspective.
Masai is about to surprise us.

I think we offered him 15 million for 1 year tops. so he took the guaranteed money which was more. I think he believes if he opts out next year he gets more anyway but is still protected incase of injury.

I'm a bit puzzled. I thought for sure Raptors would be willing to get him back for one year 20M, allow us to be competitive while keeping 2021 FA plan intact, but this deal tells me they didn't even come close.

Had we offered that, I have to think he would've come back because he's getting same amount in half the time and he can just try again next offseason. Damn...
