A recap:

2013 Trade Bargnani for 1st round pick + that lead to Jakob Poeltl

2013 Trade Gay for Vazques, Salmons, PatPat

2014 Trade Salmons for Lou Williams and Bebe

2015 Trade Vasquez for Norm Powell +

2016 Draft Pascal with 27th pick and Poeltl, sign Fred undrafted

2017 Draft OG with 23rd pick

2017 Trade TRoss and pick for Serge

2018 Trade DeMar and Poeltl for Kawhi and Green

2019 Trade JV and Delon for Gasol

Win Chip

This man knows what he is doing. He made this team better every year on route to that chip. It wasn’t just the Kawhi trade.

Taking a step back this year is not a big deal. We are about to watch the rebuild to our next contender. Sit back and enjoy the view.

Of the 10 players you listed when Masai got here, 5 were lottery picks, all top 10 I believe. Tradeable assets. And he did trade all of them. We have ZERO currently.

So Lowry, Norm, Siakam, FVV, OG, Boucher, Flynn, multiple non guaranteed contracts, capacity to take on larger contracts w/ 2021 cap space and all of our picks aren't 'tradeable assets'.... Ok, got you.

Where a player was drafted artificially bumps his trade value. That is a historical fact. Coincidentally, he hasn't made a trade since he traded his last lottery pick (JV). There is a talent attrition occurring on this roster. If Lowry & Norm leave this offseason, that will of course worsen.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

God damn why are the mods here so bad?

Of course not Darkseid. All I'm saying is that when other teams detect a clear roster imbalance, they promptly balance it back with a simple move. It was clear we've had an imbalanced roster since Len was waived and they've stood pat.

If there's a reason for letting Baynes be the only traditionally sized big man on the team, I'm just not seeing it.

Well he's certainly smarter than you since Boucher wasn't a replacement player he was with the team 2 years prior. Lmao. Reading comprehension fail and then that epic idiotic response = comedy gold. Well done hahaha

Buying and selling doesn't make a difference. When they were trying to be good, they "sold" Vasquez for two picks. When they were bad, they traded what turned out to be Steven Adams for Kyle Lowry. When they were trying to be bad, they almost traded Lowry for Shumpert and a late first. And the decision to keep going with Kyle after a 4 game win streak ended up being the best call Ujiri has ever made.

Damian Jones with another reliable outing vs Minnesota.

16 minutes.
3-3 from the field.
2-2 from the line.
3 rebounds
a steal
a block
0 turnovers
+/- +1
8 points.

Baynes' last game against Minnesota?
19 minutes
0-3 from the field.
2-4 from the line
9 rebounds
2 turnovers
+/- -12
2 points.

Why can't we find a Damian Jones while all other plans remain constant?

It's not pathetic. It's bayesian. You add new info to what you've seen thus far and adjust your projection of how things will turnout.

Far more likely they'll be buyers. They don't "need" to be anything at the deadline. Your asst/TO ratio is heading in the wrong direction.

Found Boucher a couple years ago and now trying with Donta Hall.

GS let him walk (like Boucher). Jones was waived by Phoenix last month. Phoenix has Ayton, Kaminsky, Saric and Jalen Smith who can play C. Perhaps they wanted to clear a roster spot for a smaller player? Also Jones wasn't playing that well in limited minutes and wasn't going to fetch a 2nd rounder in a trade.

He chose to play for the Lakers. Maybe he saw how poorly Marc Gasol was playing and would like to also win.

i mean sure, thats the definition. but does it mean anything significant when you're comparing two different players on two different teams when there are no common factors.

pretty sure dude is bored out of his mind. i mean he's calling out upper mgmt because its a few days before the trade deadline. obv this thread would be so much better if it was after the trade deadline and I would have to maybe agree with him.

Is it a coincidence that NYK has been playing stellar defense without Mitch Robinson and not skipping a beat with Noel at the 5? Cmon man how can you not see stuff like that? Baynes? His BPM is horrible. What the hell. And Noel got paid less on a one year contract like we wanted? HUH. Like some of the stuff really doesn't make any sense. Kyle deserves better.

I have been watching the teams ahead of us that shouldn't be and teams like New York are doing better because they mix youth with competent NBA players. NY has guys like Taj Gibson, Noel who everyone knows can defend, along with nice veteran wings like Burks and Bullock. Toronto instead chose young veterans like SJ and Bembry and a past his prime Baynes. Masai and Bobby have been stealth tanking by bringing in too many young or inexperienced players.

OP has a point. I don't think missing out in Damian Jones is the problem. It's the lack of direction this team shown the entire year, I can't tell if we are buyers or sellers. I understand the covid situation and all, but should definitely be sellers at this point. What's the point keeping Lowry to compete for the 8th seed or even play-in? Powell should be sell high, obviously the team have no intention to keep him long term otherwise an extension should be done already. IF we are still trying to compete, we should be aggressive and try to acquire players that can elevate the team. The fact that Masai still have yet to sign that contract, it looks like he is giving up. I hope I am wrong, but man this is frustrating.

If he doesn't do anything and lets the team lose, while observing that Raps are no longer a deep enough team to compete over the course of a season, well, draw your own conclusions. Hint - it's a conclusion you have been heretofore resistant to draw.

Anyway, we'll see action over the next week. Masai is a tough negotiator (even with MLSE over his contract?). He'll literally take it to the last minute before the trade deadline, as he did with the PJ Tucker deal.

Heretofore... lawyer alert!!!! :D

I think this may be the biggest issue. If you're this unsure on what your future holds what incentive is there for you to make significant moves either way? We have barely heard a peep from Masai. Bobby has signed an extension, but Masai's situation looms over everything.

I guess what my view cuts down to is: Masai and Bobby are asleep at the wheel because, look at the Lakers: you can move or trade for a center looking for minutes and integrate him acceptably with the team.

Spice it up with the flavour of the last five games and add a pinch of the impending trade deadline and that's the thread.

The mood shall pass.

I sure hope not. There is no player on the trade market that is going to take this current team from a first round exit ceiling to a genuine contender.

Unless what you mean by "buying" is picking up quality prospects on rookie scale deals and/or high quality young players locked into team friendly deals, then yes, we should be sellers at the deadline. And in order to get these things, we will have to sell.

So yes, definitely should be sellers at the deadline.
