Scottie was awesome, I really liked what I seen of him, he does a bit of everything. Given time to get comfortable I think he will impress alot of people, his ceiling is very high. Precious was also impressive, good handles, shot, and feel for the game. I think he will be a big part of our future. Banton was good, I think he should be a part of our second unit, he is quick, has good length and play good D.The only think I didn't like was it seemed like FVV was forcing and missing alot, perhaps it was because of the lack of chemistry.

Precious did a lot of good things. His handle surprises me everytime.
Smooth jumper and solid defender.
Did he set a screen on Malachi’s first 3?

If we do trade Dragic, which I’m not for or against at this point, I feel like it might be in a trade that attaches him to another salary for an upgrade.
We have four legit player for 2 spots so I think I might prefer to keep some as opposed to trading for multiple contracts.
Champagnie seems like a mix of RHJ and Norm and can slot in to most lineups due to his rebounding and versatility.

He will only get traded for an Embiid-/Drummond-/Bam-stopper. And who's that now? Horford ain't going anywhere.

I thought that he's actually not needed seeing how Svi actually has an all around game and Barnes looks like he'll be capable of facilitating.

We can't let him walk for nothing because we won't get to spend his 19mill next year or something. If we can get a C prospect or a SG prospect for him that'd be a plus for us.

I wouldn't disagree with Mykhailiuk and Barnes (or even Banton could be more ready than people here think), but I think we need more shooting.

As for trading him, we may have to take back 16m in salary, and probably for expiring to re-sign Boucher, which is probably the hardest part. Unless we trade him with Boucher or Trent to acquire an upgrade.

Sounds about right

1. Sengun
2. Green
3. Mobley
4. Barnes

I’d take him over Mobley tbh

Scottie looks better right now but if Mobley fills out in time I think he'll be really good.

Roster-wise, though, sorta feels like both Cleveland and us would be better off having swapped picks:

Mobley/Siakam/OG/Trent/VanVleet fits quite nicely going forward and Cleveland looks like an actual basketball team with Allen/Barnes/Okoro/Sexton/Garland. Barnes feeding their scoring guards and giving them a solid defensive frontcourt and whichever of he or Okoro doesn't get above 33% or so on 3s can just play the 4 on offense instead of killing them at the 3. Also Cleveland just needs energy and unselfishness. Mobley has the latter but not the former, and his passing at the 4 won't be as good as it would be at the 5 obviously.

Dragic for Jonas if that doesn't work as a fit with Zion out gets us out of the tax and gives New Orleans an actual point guard, with both about to be free agents...

You will need Dragic. Probably has a big impact on Malachi later on this year. Perfect mentor for him.

Utah Wannabe and Scottie will be beasts defensively

The 3 guys that stood out imo:

Barnes - the quickness with which he makes reads on his passes is amazing.....a truly elite level skill that very few players have. His defensive upside is also elite. We got ourselves a good one...a real good one.

Precious - He made some shots tonight that I didnt realize he was capable of making. I feel like he'll take time to feel himself out on this team in terms of fit. Lots to like about his upside.....defensively versatile, intense, has the makings of what will eventually be reliable shot, can bring ball up the court.

Svi - This guy could make an Anthony Parker like surprise impact for us. Game is smooth, IQ is high. I'm not a fan of the Matt Thomas comparisons....Svi actually has the height to get his game off.

The one guy that we'll need to see more from is Flynn. Tonight he seemed a bit out of sync with his teammates.....perhaps this was just the result of not playing in the first half. As a lead guard, I'd like to see him put his stamp on games a bit more....lead and direct teammates.....Banton seems to have that skill.

PG - VanVleet / Flynn
SG - Dragic / Trent / Svi
SF - OG/ Barnes / Watanabe
PF - Siakam / Boucher
C - Precious / Birch

The team is 12 deep.....all guys above are legit rotation players who deserve minutes. This season may be a bit like 2017/2018 where a bench mob forms that steals a bit of the show.

Banton, Champagnie, Wainright.....waiting in the wings. Lets Go!!

execoftheyear wrote:This team is built to have regular season success. We have the depth to sustain injuries should they happen (knock on wood) and to play hard for a full 48+ minutes keeping fresh legs on the floor at all times. I really wouldn't be surprised if we're in the running to have home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
That's what I've been saying since we had a good idea of what the roster would be 6-8 weeks ago (post-draft, Achiuwa+Dragic for Lowry trade, new signings, etc.). Even with Siakam and Boucher potentially both missing 5-10 games to start the season, I think we have the depth to win 45+ games -- especially if OG takes a bit of a leap and Barnes+Achiuwa are more ready for a key role than expected.

It's the playoffs where I am expecting some more serious issues. Even then, I think we could still win ugly in the 1st round (like in 2015/16 against the Pacers) if we get HCA and/or a good matchup because of our defence and coaching.

I’m re-watching the game now and it looks like they’ve added theatre lighting in Scotiabank arena. You can’t see the upper bowl. I’m not really a fan of it tbh.

We are loads better than last year. Addition by subtraction without Baynes and Len. Svi is night and day compared to Matt Thomas. We all loved Matt but he couldn’t play D or create his own shot. Svi is a poor man’s Bogdanovich. OG looks like an all star. Dragic will be the steady hands. Siakam should have less pressure. And Scottie will just impact every part of the game. Losing Lowry hurts but others will play more free without his presence. No way this team is bad enough to tank.

With all this positive hype about Barnes.. and I love it… I want to point out specific weakness I notice throughout the game: his two foot jump. At first I notice the smaller guards were able to contest his layup very easily when he went off two feet (see the jump ball and his missed layup in the second half which was put back by a teammate thankfully). And then even the Fred lob, which I know was not the easiest catch in the world, but there’s no reason he couldn’t go for the dunk.

All in all this isn’t major but i think there is a great disparity between his 1 and 2 foot jump.
