Re: Toronto Star: Edward Rogers fought plans to keep Raptors’ Masai Ujiri
I thought the days of Alan Slaight, John Bitove and Richard Peddie were in the rearview.
I have argued the actions of the corporate entity has always set this franchise behind the 8 ball. The drama in ownership and the FO has overshadowed the success on the court. It was apparent the forces in upper management have been hell bent on killing the golden goose. The Leafs have been given preferential treatment in a shrinking market at the same time apparently trying to sabotage the success of their NBA franchise.
Enter Masai Ujiri and 7 years we have won an NBA championship and the Raptors are more valuable than the Maple Leafs by close to 500million. From a business sense this is a no brainer. But they almost butchered this gift.

Pardon my ignorance since I had no idea who these people were until today, but what if this is their way of protecting the Rogers name through all this?

Brings back fond memories of being on the inside during Isaiah/Bitove days. What a mess that was. But good times. I liked John but he was out of his element.

It was co-sourced. I think it's pretty obvious that a story like that has to be leaked to a major newspaper. Michael Grange would end up looking for work if he had to post that.
How so? All canadian Media are left wing socialist puppets of the Liberal government ... there is not one paper in canada that is objective and balanced ... and I am Liberal, lol
yeah i totally spotted John Honderich and Lisa Laflamme and Rosie di Manno and Andrew Coyne and Conrad Black and Adrienne Arsenault and all their socialist buds marching in the May Day parade lol

LOL WTF @ the legit disinformation in this topic. None of the corporate Media in this country, aside from maybe TorStar which are old money neoliberal, if anything, are liberal in anyway. The G&M/NaPo/Sun media are definitely various shades of conservatism.
Some of y'all on this board are seriously far out there but I've bitten my tongue on it. Low key lots of misogyny, bigotry, classism, and outright racism. I don't know even know why y'all watch and support this team lol.

What trash. Will never use Rogers ever again. Spread this hard and let him see how much money Masai is worth.
By seeing how much money he loses from

Anyone reminded of the HBO series Succession?

"Richard Leblanc, professor of governance, Law and Ethics at York University, talks about the power that Edward Rogers has, given his control of 97% of voting shares, and what makes him unlike an average chair of the board."
As I stated earlier, the family trust might enable Ed to take control of RCI. Again, this is about direction of RCI, Shaw acquisition, pandemic issues, etc. Masai/Raptors angle is emotional distraction. Are you a pawn or not? Don't fall for this crap.

Im going to put on my tinfoil conspiracy theory hat and say grange (who’s employed by rogers) was the mouthpiece for eddy the whole time. Grange made it look like the negotiations were held up because of masai solely and painted a picture of masai wanting to leave

Well RCI stock is down 5% right now.

WTF? sell to whom? Let's not overreact here - that one man is NOT the sole owner nor represents ownership of Raptors.

Ed Rogers better hope that this just about being stupid. If anything comes to light tinged of racism, the NBA could Donald Stirling him.
Everybody is losing their freaking minds. Nutbars and wingnuts have infested this forum. We've become a public lavatory without cleaning staff.

Interest in the Leafs and baseball in general is dying out. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say the Raptors will be the most popular team in Toronto in 15-20 years.
I don't trust his family with the team either. They're all cut from the same cloth. They're just at each other's throats now because they all want more money/power. **** them all.
While generalities are always dangerous/sexist, a rule of thumb that has helped get me through life to this point is that women are better than men. Smarter, more diligent, more honest and moral ... just better. I've given up subcontracting my work to men.
My one son and one daughter have not convinced me to resile from this rebuttable presumption.
That applies to any marginalised group I feel. The harder someone had to work to get somewhere, the more authentic and humble they'll be.
But that all goes out the window when we're talking about billionaires. They've known nothing but privilege their entire lives. Is Martha a better person than Ed? Yeah, but the bar is set so incredibly low that that isn't saying much.

If you believe the National Post/ Toronto Sun/Financial Post is left leaning socialist propaganda you are delusional.

Who in their right mind would defend them. And don’t kid yourself, Bell is just as bad. All it takes is for them to appoint the wrong. Chairman and they can pull this BS too. There’s a reason these companies are universally detested.
