Re: Raptors sign Markquis Nowell
What I noticed in the highlights was when he penatrated into the paint, he had his head up looking for an open man. He didn't put his head down and make the decision that he was going to try and beat his man and force up a shot.
I hope he gets the 2nd unit and we play pressure defense with this dude annoying the hell out of guys.

He was amazing to watch in the tournament. Super high BBIQ. Like a high-speed chess player seeing the game unfold in front of him, always thinking ahead of everyone else. Unfortunately he's also very small. That might not hurt him on the offensive end, but it seems like people will hunt him on defense. But you really gotta root for the little guy in a game of giants.
'Cos it's easier to try
Than to prove it can't be done
Than to prove it can't be done

Even if he is not an NBA point guard because of his height he will be useful in the g league running the team and making them play the right way. If you want to develope players in the g league you want a point guard who can run an offense and put players in the right spot on the floor.

Trying to score seems like the last option in his mind when he drives. He's kind of like Nash in that way, before people decided a guy with 50/40/90 potential should shoot more.

His passing ability is next level...something you can't teach, you either have it or you don't

He's 5'7 but the chip on his shoulder makes him 6'4.
I'm going to try and go and see him with the 905.

The play right before half that starts at 1:05 of this video is just so impressive. Kentucky is playing the clock, and blitz him with two defenders above the 3-point line, trying to take the ball out of his hands so it ends up with a lesser playmaker with almost no time on the clock. He calmly sniffs it out, gets around both guys, then draws a third defender and finds a wide open teammate cutting to the hoop for a buzzer beating lob dunk. Unbelievable poise and overall court sense on that play.
That was an amazing read.
Size aside, he's going to need to shoot better from range if he's going to have any hope. He's played 5 (!) years of college, big sample size suggesting he's a mid-30s shooter from 3, and his body was also more mature playing against mostly younger guys especially the last 2 years.
I'm rooting for him, if he can hit Fred's peak on C&S and pull-up 3s he can carve out a role in the league.

Gonna be fun to root for this guy. IDK if he is gonna make it, but it is hard to not root for dudes with absolutely everything working against them

As far back as Colangelo he had a list of guys he thought might slip out of the draft. Teams are prepared to make these signings well before the draft.
The good thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.
The bad thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.

Of course, but you don't usually get your guy. They have the freedom to sign with whoever reaches out/best deal. Clearly there was mutual interest there. But yeah, all teams have a board of potential undrafted FA.

I see Scottie Barnes passing in Fred VanVleet or Cory Joseph's body
