Ehhhh we have a lot of money tied up on 5 guys with no superstar.

That's not the most enviable position to be in.

Yup, just think that it will be a more painful process if they do have to do so now.

Sources tell me the deal was initially a 3 year contract with no options, but Masai insisted on have the last year be a player option. A nice little bit of negotiation by the Raptors front office.

We also have a lot more proven talent with guys who can be traded for a disgruntled superstar.

There are pros and cons both ways.

Please expand.

Pretty sure the people he's talking about, were thinking he would sign for like 34mil AAV, not starting.

That isn't something that wouldn't have happened 10 years ago.

Just curious where you read he pushed his way to Toronto?

As far as I understood the only people interested in Ingram were ATL and TOR and he would've been happy in both destinations

Bobby in his post-deadline presser mentioned that behind the scenes Ingram was pushing to come here and he basically hinted/winked that they had already discussed a contract extension.

"Brandon wants to be here," Webster said Friday, according to Sportsnet's Blake Murphy. "I think this was an intentional effort by him, and we appreciate that."

Ya and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere (might have been The Athletic) that other teams were showing interest, but Ingram's reps were discouraging them because he was only interested in Toronto and Atlanta.

If SAC blows it up this summer, could see us pursue Sabonis with IQ and RJ in our hands.

Why would a team blowing it up want either of them? Sabonis could get them tons of picks.

This is the Kings we're talking about man.

They're gonna be stuck DeMar and LaVine for some time and they'll likely continue retooling.

They desperately need a PG, so something like Quickley + Poeltl + Pick for Sabonis could interest them.

DeRozan
Lavine
Murray

The point is it doesn't matter where it starts. 34 million was starting salary on a 5 year 200 million dollar deal. This deal is better than that.

Kettle, Black, Something Something.

Exactly. That results in a $40m AAV deal. We got the same AAV here and paid an extra 8% in the first 3 years to not have to commit to the last 2 years. I have no idea what he's going on about.

I can only respond to what I read. Also, did anyone really think he would sign at $34m AAV?

Here is the thread and the poll doesn't even start below $40m AAV. Also here is my post in that thread. viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2439274&start=40

I'm only half joking when I say I am also glad that contract is signed before he has to spend considerable time, starting tomorrow, in Toronto in February.

Doesn't say much for us by having them on our team in general and trading for them then, does it lol. I'd take that trade and run, but I dont think they are that stupid.

Fair enough, I recall seeing people saying stuff like how were gonna sign him for 35-36mil AAV.

Yep. Without the BI trade we STILL need to hit on our lottery pick. That's always true. I don't know how many times people need to post that draft position is not all that matters, and that a good scouting staff is probably more valuable.

We likely don't get another shot at a high lottery pick after this year, but do people really want to actively tank next year?

The anti-BI group is basically saying, we need to plan our team construction next year to allow for us to suck in case our draft pick sucks. That's the perpetual tank mind set that I'm against.

Wayyyy too early to make that call. McCain is hitting on a pick, Jakobe is still TBD.

It's even way too early to say McCain is hitting on a pick. Ahem to MCW and Tyreke Evans...
