Getting Ellis without shedding additional salary for the 2026 season means either him or Mamu won't be back after this year. RJ, Yak for Sabonis and Ellis leaves Raps with approx 20 million under the tax for next year to fill out roster. We'd have to use some portion of the full MLE to resign Mamu(let's say 10 million). That would leave likely no more than 8 for Ellis because we'd have at least 1 more roster spot to fill. Yes we'd have his bird rights but using the MLE would hard cap the Raptors at the 1st apron even if they are willing to go into the tax. I have no idea what Ellis' market might be...If the Kings would want a 1st for taking on Yak and a 1st for Ellis, it might make sense to include Gradey if the Kings would see him as late 1st round value. That would open up an additional 7 million in flexibility for next year. I don't see any scenario where we'd give up 2 future 1sts in a trade like this, at least I truly hope not.

It’s really not. He’s a streaky shooter that doesn’t bring much else to the table. I do find him entertaining but he’s not a winning player. The numbers would agree with my take.
