It’s a virtual certainty it’s going to happen lol. There’s a contingent of fans that get so emotionally attached to individual players or the team and if they fail to live up to expectations they will lash out against them directly. You saw it with Siakam and it’ll be worse for Barnes.

Siakam had a very easy time outperforming expectations.

Barnes will never be able to do it unless he becomes the best player in the world.

Not if you have the emotional maturity of a teenager or can't count to 20.

It doesn't matter what any of this bush league fan expectation drama means - Scottie Barnes is a superstar either way.

When Scottie Barnes does not develop at the rate folks expect the usual suspects will blame it on Fred, Pascal, Nurse, OG, Gary, Precious anyone else rather than recognizing that their short term expectations were just too ambitious and they need to be more patient.

Development happens in big steps sometimes but sometimes happens more gradually and it is not their teammates or coaches (who all want Scottie to succeed and can also see his great potential) that are hindering him. Patience.

Agreed. Another reason the Durant trade makes sense. Have an immediate championship timeline with KD, until Scottie takes over after having time to develop while winning a title or two.

I don't know about that. I said it last preseason and keep saying it... He is going to be a star.

Took you until preseason? You didn’t watch summer league?

Barnes impacts winning. We were 2-2 in the Sixers series in the games that Barnes played and 0-2 without him. The two losses when Barnes played were blowouts where Sixers shot 51%/3-pt 50% and 58%/3-pt 40% and got out to big leads early.

There will be some who get overly excited about a player's trajectory (and sometimes it's warranted), while there will be others who will downplay everything to counteract it while thinking they're the reasonable ones. Sometimes those who are downplaying it are doing it because this may diminish the role of another player they like. Both cases are probably extreme, but that's how fandom works. This is an entertainment business, so whatever keeps people entertained, and passionate about something, all the power to them.

It is fairly easy to see with Barnes why there is so much excitement. His growth since he was drafted has to be in a higher percentile than other players in NBA. It doesn't mean he will keep getting better and live up to lofty expectations, and it doesn't mean that he won't.

If it doesn't work you're stuck with a high cost lemon and a difficult rebuild under Barnes, which will push him out. The team as is has the infrastructure for Scottie to take over the team and still compete. Durant is playing for legacy, so he's not going to be able to help Scottie grow. Everyone talented he's played with has been better without him.

Durant is a unicorn. The only reason it doesn't work is if he gets injured. If your management is good, he will continue to produce at an elite level. Durant relies on fundamentals and length more than athleticism for what he does.

But, that's also why you make sure not to mortgage your future and keep a good balance. This is why Barnes will not be included in a trade for him and probably a couple of other younger players as well.

Who’s even doubting him? I can’t count enough posters on one hand to verify this let alone why tf would they be doubting him
