I think the draft has proven that you can find those two way players (let's call them Middletons) everywhere and typically much later in the draft. IMO, the lottery is for offense. Which players are teams gameplanning for? Of the top 30 scorers in the league, only 5 were drafted outside the lottery.

I've been looking at videos of this kid and I noticed that he's fairly quick. I'll make a quickness comparison to a former Raptor; Andrea Bargnani. Poeltl looks to have similar quickness to that Italian sack of crap who just happened to play PF. So that leads me to believe that if Poeltl continues to develop that 3 point jumper that he started to show in workouts I don't see a problem playing him WITH Jonas.

Look at the quickness he displays on the fastbreak in this video, in addition to the blocked shots.

i.m at the point as a fan where i realize its just as likely that we.ll be surprised as it is that we wont.

i used to get so caught up in who they were workign out, who was coming in for extra workouts, etc. now i.m just kinda like, whatever . not saying theyre all smokescreens either, bc i do think they try to get the right guy and they dont purposely waste their time . but its clear that draft night often changes everything

Poeltl with the hurdle!

He looked alright, scoops shots like his continue to work at the NBA level because they take advantage of even the slightest offensive space advantage. His blocks however were in the - beat by footwork but "met at the rim" which was more body-foul-missed-layup from the player he was guarding and him slapping the backboard then actually getting the ball pinned on the glass - but he has good hands around the boards and i like that. He would be an apt replacement for Biyombo, with modest upside?

LOL. Poeltl in the video showing a full repetoire of moves Bargnani couldn't do when he entered the NBA. Seems like it would be some sort of weird karma to get him for the Bargnani trade.

Plus getting Poeltl at 4 million a year long term is better than getting Biyombo at 14-17 mill a year.

Realistically Biyombo will be a backup. That's a steep price for one. Better have a young cheap center develop as a backup with no pressure. If he shows something then we decide what to do.

Someone tell me how Poelti is better than prince. Prince is a 2 way player that's only going to get better.

I like what i see from Poeltl, i'd be happy to get him witb our pick. Either he will be available or he goes higher and someone else drops. He can score down low in a variety of ways, good passing skills, good mobility and agility for a 7 footer, solid rebounder, can protect the rim. Not elite yet at any of it but at 20 years old he is very good at alot of things. His huge jump in free throw shooting from freshman to sophmore is encouraging for his work ethic and ability to continue to get better as a shooter. His shot looks like it actually could have range and potential out to 3 from his workout vids even though he barely took any jumpers last year and managed about 18 a game purely in the paint. Its just one workout though so who knows but it looks like the potential for that is there.

He looks like a really good prospect and is probably bpa at our spot unless someone unexpected drops. A pf would be more ideal for us but i think he looks like a much better prospect than the ones in our range just in my opinion.

Glad masai and Casey don't Draft based on age. They would have missed on powell if they did. Who cares if he is 7 foot doesn't answer my question how he will be better than prince in the nba

I agree with selecting Prince, although I am unsure at what # to draft him at. What if through some trades our team was looking like this? Would still need a starting caliber 4 or start PP and find a suitble backup. Thoughts?

I like Poeltl too.

It's good to remember that if Bargnani had the toughness and will to win, he'd likely be a starter on a good team and wanted throughout the league.

If Luis Scola can play PF with his speed/athleticism/lateral quickness.....then i have no doubt in my mind that Poeltl can play PF

Don't get me wrong, I like Prince. Your argument though is that Prince is a 2 way player that will only get better. I'm just pointing out that Poeltl is also except he has much more size and is younger so he also has lots of room to grow.

Outside of that. He has proven much more at the college level statistically than Prince. He's a sophomore that has done more in 2nd season than Prince has done in his entire 4 year college career.

Prince is good and I think will be good. However there's no convincing argument that he's a A) a better prospect than Poeltl and B) the best player available at 9

He does a lot of things that remind me of Pau Gasol, without the ridiculous length and post game. But the face up game, mobility, touch and rebounding all remind me of Pau. I guess Pau is a guy you can play at PF, but I feel like in today's NBA, it makes more sense to have him play as a C.
