In reporting the trade, the pick would just be reported as a Miami 2025 pick which extinguishes if not conveyed by 2027. Usually these picks extinguish into 2nds. Most teams would demand that the team trading the pick have the protection removed from the 2023 pick because that guarantees they get they get the pick and sooner so it isn't common. Raptors would be assuming the risk that Miami doesn't suck.

as i said the league wont allow it, that pick in their ledger is owed to OKC until its not. The nba vs other leagues is very strict about these things.

what those podcasts must have done is predicted a side deal with OKC, have them take 2023 unprotected, 2024 is then locked because of stepian rule, thus 2025 first avaliable to trade, protected that till 2027 and then convert to seconds.

Well I'm fairly certain you are wrong. Hollinger has a podcast with Nate Duncan and I've heard them specifically discuss that this could be done with regards to the Heat. It wouldn't violate any rule because the pick they are conveying would be subject to the rule being satisfied. Hollinger worked in the Grizzlies front office for many years so he knows the rules. But again it is unlikely that the receiving team is willing to accept the possibility it extinguishes without a pick. let's drop it for now and I'll be back to gloat if it ever happens in a trade.

Okay so I'm back to gloat. It happened this deadline with the Aaron Gordon trade. Denver owes a 2023 lottery protected 1st to OKC so when they trade their 2025 draft pick to Orlando it is their 2025 or first allowable draft because the protection on the pick owed to OKC may roll over multiple years. If the protections roll over to 2024 and OKC gets that pick then Orlando would get 2026. If the protections roll over to 2025 then OKC gets that pick and Orlando is getting Denver's 2027. Orlando is guaranteed a first however because the pick owed to OKC extinguishes to a 2nd if not conveyed by 2025. In such case Orlando would get Denver's 2026 pick.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

I have a strong suspicion that we had KCP going to the Nets for Dinwiddie's expiring. Nets were hoping to get another wing defender. Schroder was probably going to be flipped for multiple 2nds like Fournier got. Perhaps we would have just kept kept Schroder. It was definitely not worth doing without THT.
