Dunno why people mind taking Clingan 6. I dont see any real high upside prospects so give me the starting caliber C who, if his rim protection translates, will lift a defense

https://www.tankathon.com/pick_odds
At current seeding:
8.6% chance the pick stays at #6 (happened once in last 5 years that these new odds system in place)
9% chance the pick is #1
9.2% chance the pic is #2
9.4% chance the pick is #3
9.6% chance the pick is #4
the pick will never be #5
54.2% chance we convey the pick to the Spurs because it gets bumped down to 7,8, 9 or 10, which has happened 4 out of the last 5 years for the 6th position.
If we fall to 7th spot, then there's a 68% chance we convey the pick, though that has happened only once out of the last 5 years because as you know, the 7th spot has been damn lucky in the lottery (including for our Barnes pick).

I'll roll with the 46 per cent chance we don't convey. But seriously with the alleged Darko team stealing Dolan state secrets and his guitar tabs plus Jontaygate gets paid our head office is prob going to spin the wheel to BANKRUPT. Then make us take Edey at 18. Then we can use the 31 on Jamir Watkins, let Gary and Brown walk for free and do tank hardcore next year when Sann is promoted to the turret toss sweepstakes Captain including installing Russian bbq grill modifications against any drone attacks.

45-ish%, with around a 37% chance of a Top 4 pick

He has a remarkably high floor where he could be a cheap Poeltl replacement. We should be looking to replace guys like Poeltl and Barrett with our picks this year. We need to sell them for high value and reduce our payroll. I would guess the next big piece we trade is Poeltl. Barrett is a guy we would want to develop a bit more before he's moved.

This is the definition of elite rim protection. Just remember how dominant a guy like Kessler was.
And like Kessler, he'll be a high floor, low ceiling guy that doesn't really add to the team's offense besides good screening.
If we drafted him 6th, i'd be annoyed. 8-10 via trading down? Sure.
Clingon has much better touch around the basket. Kessler is limited because he can't finish around the rim unless its an open dunk
Hes not Joel Embiid, but a guy that can't just have a sg switch onto him because he will easily finish that. Its what separates him as a prospect vs Gobert or Kessler

Not sure how or where we would do this, but I would like to draft Isiah Collier if he is available (esp with the Pacers pick). He had a rough freshman year but the talent, strength, and explosiveness is there. Will definitely need to be developed esp if he wants to play point guard, but he could be in sort of that Cam Whitmore situation (drop due to various reasons but is still very talented and will rise in re-drafts).

Unless we keep our pick and go with Reed, one of the other big guards with questionable jump shots that I have over Collier as safer bets (Topic, Castle), I'd love to take a shot at him. The way people talk about him reminds me of GG Jackson. The kid is super talented. May take time for some of the pieces of the game to come together (left hand, shot selection, etc.) But you can't teach his ability to get to the basket and keep defenders on their toes. He's also got potential on defence.

That is the problem with this draft. There are plenty of players may end up with rotations pieces but not many with star potential.

I guess he's like Scoot Henderson but Scoot is bad right now. Is Collier an undersized SG or combo-guard?

Scoot is the superior athlete and has a better midrange game, but Collier uses his strength and change of speed better to get to the rim. I see Collier as a combo-guard with potential to turn into a full-time pg. I actually don't mind Collier’s turnovers at the moment. I think they demonstrate creativity. I'd prefer that as opposed to only going for the easy pass to keep his assist to turnover rate high.

I don't have a view on Clingan, but normally, everyone on this board is adamant that if you have a high lottery pick, you go BPA. No exceptions. So what if, come our pick, Clingan is BPA? Now all of a sudden a lot of people on this board are effectively arguing for need over BPA when it comes to Clingan. Yes, we could use a great shooter/good athletic guard, yes, we could use a great stretch 4 or 5, but come the sixth pick (if we don't move up), are those of you arguing against Clingan going to complain if Masai and team believe he is the BPA at #6?

Clingan over Sarr and the other top 6 would be huge for us if we jump into the top 4.

Trade Poeltl for 2025 pick and hopefully prospect. Dieng, filler, and ‘25 from OKC?

Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD 2
I don't see Cha, SAS or Portland taking Clingan. If he falls to us itd be tough to pass him up for Holland/Castle/Matas especially with how bad we are as a defensive team
If we could trade into the top 10 with Memphis or OKC using Poeltl I'd be happy.

I also think that the top end of the draft lacks star power. The top 10 to 15 guys can be arranged in pretty much any order, and you could make a good case for it. I personally really like Risacher, and would take him #1. He should probably go in the top 5. Other than that though, as far as I'm concerned, anything goes. Team fit is probably going to be a bigger deal for lottery picks this year than in most years.
