Crazy that we got Barnes in the starting lineup and Mogbo off the bench for that lol

I was really down on Sengun during the Scottie Barnes draft for similar reasons as Queen (defense, athleticism, height) and he turned out amazing
I would be content if we pick Queen
So I had Sengun #2 behind Mobley and ahead of #3 Cade.
I was hugely in on Sengun and I'm not on the Queen bandwagon at all.
Ya, anyone who is a beast against grown men in a really competitive professional league needs to be weighed far more than college basketball. It was like the idiots who ignored Luka's accomplishments...

Like ignoring that drafting 4 rookies is a bad idea (Yes I know we did it last season and it worked but Chomche is more or less a lottery ticket until proven otherwise), how are we adding that many draft selections to this team's options?
I'm all for drafting Queen 9th if Malauch is off the board but I need to hear the latter half of this out.

I don’t see why he wouldn’t be able to do this in the NBA lol. Especially after 2-3 years in the league. Also even if his teammates helped him out because he had good teammates, he will also have good teammates on the Raptors as well. Probably better than anything he had on his college team. It’s not like he’s going to Washington or something lol.
He will be playing alongside a defensive beast in Scottie who can make up for everything he isn’t great at on defence. He can also play alongside Mogbo and Jakob who are good defenders as well. Idk, I see the fit. Other than Jakob, we haven’t had a C who has good hands, can finish and has good touch since like Gasol and Serge. Raptors need that bad.
And then on top of that he has passing skills supposedly and Darko loves his Cs to have that skill. He may not be people’s favourite prospect, but to me acting like you can’t see the fit is weird. But hey, I don’t watch college ball or do any research on prospects until we draft who we draft so I don’t know much of anything

I would be shocked if one of these big men are available at 9. Gonna be a stressful 8 picks waiting for teams to gift us a center.

Queen is pretty nice man. And a backup plan in case the Scottie era fails. But yeah, if you didn’t like Siakam/Scottie pairing this looks worse. But who’s to say Scottie is even around long term. To me I see the experiment running its course pretty soon.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars
Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid
There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

i think queen or maluach would really solidfy our bench mob next year. maluach would provide rim runner lob threat while queen would give them a iso post threat/dho elbow big. 2 really different guys.

I think one of them are definitely there. The consensus top 8 I’ve been seeing in no particular order is:
Flagg
Harper
VJ
Bailey
Fears
Johnson
Maluache
Kon
So if both Cs are gone that means someone in that top 8 dropped which would be great. No me it’s a win win

Brinbe wrote:RoteSchroder wrote:Brinbe wrote:the stuff on queen harping about his defense is nonsense, especially when you consider the numbers
yes, he was helped by playing next to a great frontcourt partner in reese and the overall team defense needs to be accounted for in some ways, (that goes for every prospect like Flagg/Maluach/Bryant too) but the way people talk about him you'd think he was an albatross or something but he was actually really good
of course that's not to say he'll be some draymond-like defender at the next level or even a great one, but the discourse doesn't match reality. The way people talk about his body you'd think he's a Tractor Traylor redux out there when he's not even close to that.
sometimes, ballers are just ballers and you shouldn't overthink things
Unless he can transition to PF, most centers that can’t be defensive anchors are just not that useful.
If we get a KAT, Sabonis, Randle, or even Sengun, chances are we will want to trade them eventually, and we may not get great value for them. All of them are way better ballers than Queen, who doesn’t project to be better than any of them and he’s also got some tunnel vision when attacking the basket. Meanwhile, defensive C’s are pretty coveted and can be a part of a winning solution.
So what’s the point if we trade Queen down the road for low value and spend a lot to get a defensive C.
If you look at OKC vs Indiana now, it’s pretty much all two-way starters minus Haliburton. Boston last year was also all two-way players in the SL. The goal isn’t to be the Knicks or Sacramento.
he's a way better defender than all those guys. and trying to call him a tunnel vision player just shows you have no zero clue here lol
c'mon man...
the tape, the production and the results don't lie on him. and a combine score or a body type doesn't change that he's a winning player.
You probably don’t even know what that stat indicates. Pfeifer manually tracked each prospects passes and subjectively labeled any pass that requires a high degree of skill as a “big time pass”
So if Queen passes 10 times in a game, 3.7 out of 10 passes are where he’s trying to do something fancy. If you actually want to disprove my point, track where he’s looking to score, but is in a situation where he needs to pass, then compare the pass/shoot ratio to other prospects.
With your level of analysis, gotta take whatever you say with a grain of salt.

Is that why it seems like Poeltl has no impact on our defense? I guess we don’t really need another defensive C then

iq, rj, bi, scottie, yak
shead, ochai, jakobe, gradey, mogbo, maluach/queen
have at least one of iq/rj/bi/scottie with bench units
that's a good solid squad. and most likely a trade this summer too.

Matchup dependent.
Queen is a C. Who's been our other C's since Gasol/Ibaka.
Poeltl is legitimately the only rotation caliber C we've rostered.
I think Maluach would also work. Any actually good C, offensive or defensive would work next to Barnes. A stretch defensive Center might be optimal, but a Sabonis like C might be great too. Hard to say.

I have no clue why you're quoting me here since I've been crying about having 2 Centers on this roster since the Ibaka/Gasol days.
Poeltl has been the only competent Center Masai has added to this team since then. While I love Poeltl, Masai's ineptness has made him seem like Jokic in terms of importance lol.

Defensive being the key word here. I mean..if we draft Queen for a Bobby Portis/Naz Reid role off the bench, that’s fine, but Scottie and Mogbo aren’t covering for the defensive drop off when Poeltl exits the game.
I would say that Olynyk was rotation worthy off the bench.

What I meant by that is Mogbo/Scottie isn’t enough to absorb a C with below average defense.
We would still need another defensive big man if we got Queen, preferably one that could play both PF/C. Limiting Queen to a bench role where he faces opposing benches for his entire career works too.

Poeltl is the best we have but has so many holes in his game aka shooting and defensively he's overrated and mediocre at best.
