They wanted to send us Simmons I bet.

I agree. Be careful. If real GM’s are anything like RealGM, valuation on Ben Simmons is all over the place. Hopefully Ujiri realizes this guy is one of the NBA’s worst contracts. He has more personal fouls than made baskets!

But I will point out that the Nets waived Kessler Edwards to create a roster space. Teams have a greater likelihood to need a roster space when they trade a larger salary, and get two smaller ones back. If the Nets aren’t trading Durant, the next large salary is Simmons.

There are some who feel Simmons is a monster talent who just needs to be a bit more time to figure out the shooting and free throw thing, and he'll become there greatest thing since cinnamon toast.

Others say, well, worst case, we surround him with shooters and then he and Scottie will pass the ball around and play monster D.

Unfortunately, there is a worse than that "worst case". He never gets better, and regresses from where he's at.

The comp for that is a fellow named Andris Biendrins, a C who was drafted 11th overall in 2004 by GSW. For the first few years, he looked like a hell of a player. In his fourth season, he averaged 12 boards a night, got himself a pretty rich deal by the standard of 2007. He was never a great free throw shooter, but got his average up to 62% the same season he had a 60% FG percentage. Then something happened. His free throw shooting started to get worse, and worse, and worse. It got so bad he became afraid to be fouled, so he his FG attempts fell by half. And so his rebounding fell off as well. At one point, he averaged 11% for FTs for an entire season. Eleven Percent. Basically, he developed a phobia. And the team had him work with shooting coaches, even wanted him to try shooting free throws underhanded. Nothing worked, and he faded out of the picture, eventually returning to Latvia where hopefully he is having a nice life.

I see some of that fear in Simmons, and at this stage, what five years into his career, I don't believe in the upside and am concerned he might well go downhill.

I was surprised Jake Fischer including the Timberwolves as having interest in Fred Van Vleet

Several opposing executives have since labeled VanVleet as the most likely Raptor to be traded ahead of Thursday's deadline. A pair of Western Conference contenders in the LA Clippers and Phoenix Suns have been often mentioned as VanVleet suitors. The Lakers, Magic and Timberwolves have also registered interest in VanVleet, sources said. VanVleet is expected to decline his $22 million option for the 2023-24 season in search of a pay raise that approaches a maximum salary and certainly north of $30 million.

We haven’t heard anything about FVV locally in MIN. And a VanVleet trade would undoubtedly send DLo elsewhere. It seems odd to see interest in Fred when one of the main reasons to trade DLo is because if he doesn’t come back on a reasonable new deal, MIN can’t replace that salary slot. Same thing could happen by swapping him for FVV.

Report saying BKN and NYK not active in talks with raptors for OG. Gut tells me that they don't have the prospect level wanted by us to get anything done.
Could just be a 2 man race with Memphis vs NO. Maybe a dark horse swoops in like POR

Forgot that we have a fresh, idiot new owner to fleece.

The typical pattern here is they **** up so bad, give away the farm and set their team back 5 years until they realize they need to step back.

Gotta pounce after the Durant hangover this summer.

Guy knows basketball and is a smart businessman... I doubt there going to be any fleecing going on. He not the average billionaire playing with a new toy. He's a hardcore basketball lifer. That said so is MJ so that doesn't mean he'll be a good owner. But I suspect he'll do just fine.

That's what they say about all of them. It hasn't been a banner year for the image of billionaires and their competence. What you're looking for here in a fleecing scenario is words like "looking to make their mark" "put their stamp on the team".

They can't help themselves most of the time.

It is the Toronto management and coaching staff that worry me most. I feel like management is too enamoured by their own players and set unrealistic goals for trades which other teams balk at. The coach doesn't know how to be flexible in his schemes, so you kind of can only target guys who will thrive in it.

I still think the wait is on Phoenix to have Sarver officially out which is tomorrow. Sarver has veto on any trade greater than $10m, and you don't want to risk him rejecting a deal as final salute to their organization. We have a lot of Klutch guys which Sarver refused to deal with for years.

Remember when the King's owner suggested playing 4 on 5 and leaving a cherry picker in the back? Was he the one who suggested crowd sourcing the Sauce Castillo pick?

I'd do so many stupid things with my billions but they'd mostly be around greenlighting tv/video game projects that have no audience but for me.

I actually buy Oakvillehoops story, I just don't think that guy is as plugged in to trade talks as he leads on. People want to feel more important than they actually are.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Raptors decide to hold on to their main assets past the trade deadline and wait for the eventual KD trade request in the off-season.

I do think Masai wants KD. Widhorst mentioned Phoenix and Toronto as two teams who can get a deal done if KD wants out

If the Raps are gonna keep all their main assets.... at least consolidate some bench pieces to get some better depth somehow.

Because let's face it, our starting 5 is too good to be tanking and will most likely pull a 7 game-winning streak out of their ass to end the season and we forcefully gonna have to play in the Play-in.

Either Trade FVV and OG for assets now, or help the damn team if you believe in our core

I wonder if it'd ever be something like Simmons + 2 picks for FVV + Boucher. Picks help balance us taking on a big contract
