Re: Tank World Order (2.0)
Devastating week. This is up there with the worst-case scenarios (W's against the Wizards and Cavs).
I'm still holding out hope but our path is incredibly narrow.

This thread should be focused on avoiding the play-in. Magic, Cavs, Wiz and Pistons are just extremely bad and the Bulls are only 2 games up with 19 games left. Dangerous.

We might have to shift our focus away from the cavs and wizards and focus on getting the 7th pick. OKC got Dort back today, Shai some time next week. Their coach already talking about how he’s expecting most of his guys to come back soon (they had 6 players injured).
It seems like every times we get close to 5 and 6 something unfortunate happens.

This win and the Wizards game are too much to overcome. Going to end up somewhere above 10.
Two more wins, and the Raptors would be 11th right now. I have been optimistic, but this week the dream is over. This team cannot compete with the tank jobs of the other teams. When Lowry and FVV return, and the way the Trent, Flynn, and Boucher are playing, this team will be in the play in game. They are just one win behind Chicago.
Cleveland has thrown in the towel for the year. Same with OKC. We are not leapfrogging these teams. Same with the Wizards. The Kings have faded, and I think they will throw in the towel soon also. That leaves Raptors competing with the Bulls for the tenth play in game. A healthy Raptors team, now with the addition of Birch, will surpass Chicago in the end.

If we could do the play in, screw it up, go home immediately, Walk away with Davion Mitchell and Filip Petrusev on draft night this current displaced lost season reversion to mediocrity will be a huge success duly pssing off both tWo and those assuming we are contenders if not for some stiff of a centre.

OKC knows what they are doing. They will take their time bringing their players back. They have basically thrown in the towel for the year. They are trying to get a high pick as possible. Do not blame them.

It is not so important the placement we get as getting the player we really want. Masai has to step up to trade up or down depending on the success or failure of this tankathon.

Lowry coming back will be the real reason the tank gets completely sabotaged, but getting a little injury luck here with Lowry/Fred/Siakam just shows how shortsighted the Norm trade for a serviceable role player really was, instead of getting garbage you waive and a future draft pick.
Potentially missing out on a star lottery pick is the type of devastating mistake that has a ripple effect for many years.
The only real variable remains injuries and Covid for the rest of this year, or Masai forcing a tank on Nurse, which doesn't seem in the cards.

I have made similar points. Too late now. Let the fans of "Team Treadmill" enjoy their 10th place finish, and the first round sweep. I was hoping to trade Powell and Lowry in January for draft picks, and guys you could waive immediately. My goal was for the Raptors to be in the bottom 3 right now by this date, alongside Houston, Minnesota, and Detroit.
This team had the chance to get that top 3 talent in a solid draft, but chose to go in another direction. Let the chips fall where they may now. Years from now, fans of Team Treadmill should remember their playoff birth from 2021, while seeing guys like Cade and Suggs in all-star games. I have beaten a dead horse, so time to focus on the 10th to 16 range of the draft. Guys like Davion Mitchell. Maybe you can trade up also, using FVV to do so.

Norm trade for a serviceable role player...
How many players in this 2021 draft do you absolutely know will be better than our "serviceable role player" who by the way is 22 and is absolutely killing it. You must be a fundamentalist tanker a la trust the process. No thanks for that crap formula.

The answer to this is "I don't care about role players at the beginning stage of a rebuild". We can find a Terence Ross, FVV, Norm, Amir, JV, OG, Ibaka, etc. down the road and anywhere in the draft and out of it.
I do care about losing a shot at our best chance to get a high level, ceiling raising star. And that's what the Norm/Lowry decisions are likely to cost us. Trent isn't worth that tradeoff. I'd rather have the future pick that isn't likely to be as good as him AND the lottery pick that has the potential to be much, much, much more impactful than he ever will.
And this isn't a full tank, it's the stealth tank moves for this season that 90% of this board has finally accepted were the obvious course after we slid down the standings. Masai just blew the opportunity.

This really isn't a rebuild it is a retool on the fly. Masai and Bobby want players for next year and the years after not five years plus from now like Sam Hinke. All these freshmen? Super high risk.Ideally we land Cade, Suggs, Mobley and Green but... we are in Poetl territory. So what they do with KL's 30 mil plus and Baynes 7 is the biggest concern and biggest opportunity going forward.

I miss Fred’s half court offense too.
The team plays way more free and better without that ball hog. It makes me wonder why people consider him a part of the core, he’s the most expendable.

Someone told me that FVV leads our team in assists and that I'm hating on FVV for no reason. I hate the way he plays. He's tough and gritty but he's a total ball hog.
