I know I might get flamed for it and that's fine lol but I think I might be willing to part with Ochai to take a flyer on Leonard Miller (plus they'd to add whatever small asset). He just seems like he has the potential to be at least a pretty good rotation player imo and it would be at a greater position of need.
Maybe I'm tripping lol but I'm not sure what I'm missing and again why he can't develop into a solid rotation player. Aside from that I might not mind the previously proposed deal to get Eason.

The best fit would be Agbaji to the Pacers for Isaiah Jackson. Indiana does it to add a wing shooter/defender to their mix (and because Jackson is behind others on their depth chart), and Toronto does it to get a young rim protector.
Poeltl / Jackson
Barnes / Mamu / CMB
Ingram / Walter
Barrett / Dick
Quickely / Shead
When we had Koloko according to Cleaning the Glass we allowed 9.5 fewer points per 100 possessions with Koloko on the court (98th percentile defensively). Toronto’s defensive rating was around 103–104, but when no true center was on the floor it was 116.
Maybe it's thinking short term but a good back up C means less injuries having guys play out of position and it makes us a lot better. I'd give Mamu a chance at the 4 and bring in CMB slowly to see if he can outperform the others in practice and develop that shot.

The Pacers need a starter-level & backup rim protector more than they need another wing, this makes zero sense unless they're the team that lands Claxton at the deadline and they think they can fill the backup role in free agency.

Rockets get to maintain some bench depth without having to open up their pockets much for Ochai. JKW is cost controlled
One of Dick/JKW needs to be traded for a wing with some offensive upside who can guard. Then bench C can be found on the FA market or the draft
If they could have signed him for 16-18m, they would have. He was likely looking for the same money that Jabari Smith Jr. got.

lol at this point you would probably be happy even if they waived him.

I think he's a high value piece. He's the only player other than Jak to be > 60 TS%. The issue is that I don't think he can grow much from what he is. He's an older prospect and been in the league for a while. He is what he is at this point. I would look to trade him to fill a hole that I think could make us a 47 win team rather than a 41 win team and reduce injuries.
The success we had with Koloko shouldn't be forgotten. He sucked and yet his 7'5 wingspan, size, and rim protection made our defense insanely good. Imagine improving our non Poeltl minutes by 5-7.5 few points per 100 possessions. I really doubt Mamu does that for us. With CMB, JaKobe, and Dick I we should have enough scoring already.

"high value piece" that you want to dump for very little coming back

Koloko didn't see the court last night - wonder if he survives the season in LA.

The Rockets are weighing that more as a cap squeeze problem and they have to figure out what they want to do with FVV's dead money this year, too. I think that they try to attach assets to move the contract and reduce salary commitments than marginal trades with similar cap issues.
Remains one of the more likely RJ salary matching contracts, which the FO still wants to get rid of (I see it more as a 3 teamer possibility). Not sure FVV+Tari for RJ+minimum contract as the base is moving that needle on either end. We have our own cap squeeze problems.

I can see an RJ for KCP swing to save money and add a warm body to the injured Memphis roster.
I'd like to open it up to explore the possibility in taking in Scottie Pippen Jr and dropping off Ochai or Jakobe. KCP probably declines his PO to get one last long term contract before retirement
