Why does it feel like this draft is 8 deep? Seems like a consensus top 8 is forming from what I’m seeing. Any chance one of them falls to us?

The other reason I can see for why the Raptors will view CMB as one of their favorite 9 prospects is because of investments already made in Jakobe and Gradey as shooters. If you intend to bring those two into your rotation more as bench players you need a mobile active switch-y C who can rotate and offset for their defensive issues to make both more playable. CMB can also pass a bit. So you let him play his Julius Randle-ish herky jerky small ball big game down low and surround him with shooters he can kick out to and defensively benefit from more than Derik Queen can bring.

I mean it's so weird really. If he doesn't want to go there, why would he even want a promise in order to visit?

Don’t believe that hype. It’s 8 deep only for people who are focused mostly on Offense and the Raptors don’t. If you factor in defence it’s a lot deeper than 8 and a guy like CMB climbs up.

My hope is someone buys into the Essengue or Demin hype. I don't mind Demin as a late lottery bet and wouldn't draft him in the top 13, but I can see teams talking themselves into him if he's knocking down shots during workouts.

CMB is another possibility to move into the top 8, but not sure if many GMs have the guts to pull the trigger (though you can easily make a case for him as a top 8 pick)

The last 8 man deep draft (2016)

1. B Simmons
2. B Ingram
3. J Brown
4. D Bender
5. K Dunn
6. B Hield
7. J Murray
8. M Chriss

The Raptors ended up with Poeltl/Siakam/VV, their greatest draft haul.

Sabonis, D Murray, Zubac, Lavert also came from the draft, and the ROY of the year was Brogdan selected 36th.

Draft tiers are only a thing before a draft.

Okc was starting the man during the NBA finals and we got guys here proposing this. Why cant people think of trade proposals from BOTH sides before communicating lol.

I mean all we need is for ONE guy to jump into the top 8 to make that happen. Hopefully there’s another Josh Giddey type of situation. If it goes chalk (which will most likely happen) I’ll be slightly disappointed, but I’m sure our FO will still find a gem

I this this draft will be very similar to that draft in terms of talent throughout.

Speaking of Simmons, I often wonder if Darko could turn him into something useful. If Darko can't build his confidence & find a useful role, nobody can.

I really like 'Noa Essenque but he's a project - If the Raptors trade down I'd won't mind taking Essenque.

By far the best draft guide from an aesthetics stand-point. It gets better every year. Disagree strongly with some of the rankings/comparisons though

One thing I like about CMB he has really good handles and can break his man off the bounce. Obviously if he ever gets a jump shot watch out. He’s certainly a guy that can lead the bench mob for a bit and hopefully one day he fits as a starter.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

has the best nickname too

Murray-Boyles has no shortage of admirers, but going in the top 10 still seems like a stretch. The Detonator is one of the most, if not the most, cerebral and versatile defenders in the draft, and he also plays the right way, always playmaking or orchestrating with the goal of getting his team the right shot at the right time.

yup, I'm not sold on a bunch of the guys who will be selected in the top 8, at least when it comes to their upside. I think the very best player from this draft (outside of maybe Flagg) could be drafted in the 10-20 range. In this range, you take take a lot more risk than teams higher up can/will.
