Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Jeremy Lamb
His lack of intensity also rears his head on offense. The kid hates contact. If he doesn't change his approach in the NBA, he's going to end up like Martell Webster, a guy stays on the perimeter and just shoots while providing very little else

I know I didn't slack off when I played HS sports. I was super competitive & would get pissed at teammates if they goofed around too much. I had more of a Kobe/ Jordan approach mentally. I actually would practice/ train in the summer so I was in game shape when the season started.
I guess that's why I was often named team captain. I practiced like it was a game. Gave it my all on every play.
The guys that were more naturally athletic/ taller than me used to frustrate the he'll out of me because they should have been better than me, but they weren't.
So no, from a personal standpoint, I can't really understand. The only time a player should get a pass for slacking a little is if they are winning a complete blowout game (late in the game).

Anyone who is pro-Bargnani should not be anti-Lamb because of any perceived lack of intensity.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Jeremy Lamb
Lamb being roughly as good a SG as Bargnani is a PF would still make him a good pick at #8. If you can get a legitimate 35mpg, 16 PER+ unquestioned starter at #8... you take it every time IMO. But in this case I think he really does have star potential
I think Lamb is a no brainer if he falls to 8. Would be very much like the Monroe and Rudy Gay picks IMO. A player that's obviously mega talented that gets his motor concerns overblown...
But I'm worried we're two or three spots too low in the draft and Sac or Portland bites on Lamb...

I'm not pro-Bargnani or anti-Lamb
if he's there at 8 we take him. Just don't like the excuses being made for him in this thread.

Is lamb a similar player to oj mayo?
In terms of impact, is that what we should expect?

Nope. Mayo doesn't know how to play off-ball, can't use screens, his size is a problem (not the penis size), but he doesn't play bigger than his size due to limited wingspan. Skillwise, I thought mayo had the best skillset coming into the draft that year..but look at him now. I still think Lamb's skillset translate better cos he knows how to score in different ways.

I believe Lamb is more talented and has greater upside but no doubt Colangelo would draft Barnes if he were available as he just makes like much easier....he makes it so DeRozan doesn't have to move positions or have Lamb come off the bench (worst case) and Barnes has a "marketable" personality that BC could easily sell. He also would be a good fit in our lineup and I believe Casey would make him seem much better than almost any other team would as Casey's system relies on shooters (which Barnes is) and defending (which Barnes was heralded for in his freshman year but had a slight dip last year).
As for who will likely be taken before Lamb:
Davis
Beal
MKG
Drummond
TRob
Barnes
In a dream world someone falls in love with Sullinger (which I actually think would be fair considering he's close to TRob and may turn out better), PJ3 or Lillard but I think it's likely that Lamb is taken before. It actually won't surprise me if Rap fans' hearts are broken when Lamb goes BEFORE Barnes at POR but then GS takes Barnes right before us. SMH just how I see it happening...

I'd take Lamb ahead of Barnes, but it's not like we'll have that decision to make on draft night anyways so it doesn't matter.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Jeremy Lamb
One of Barnes, Lamb or Sullinger should be there at 8. Barnes is the best fit, Lamb the best potential and Sullinger would force our hand on other moves which might be a very good thing. I'm pretty sure we could find Lamb and Barnes quality players by other means but not a young beast in the paint like Sullinger. A front court with JV, Bargs, Sullinger and Amir is an enticing prospect. Switch Ed for Amir and the same applies. Sullinger, like Amir, should be able to play minutes at centre easily which puts Ed Davis squarely into the mix for a trade. If we get Sullinger at 8 it will be a very good thing IMHO. My guess is he's gone and it will be Lamb who is there. Lamb's frame looks like a high schooler but once he gets stronger he may become an even better finisher. Watching Demar develop I have every reason to believe he can make the transition to the 3 spot.

With all due respect man, no way Sullinger can play center. His real height is inflated, since I read an article from three months back stating he is only 6 foot 8 in shoes, and 6 foot 7 without them. He has a height of a small forward, and is an undersized PF. Demar is a Shooting Guard (6 feet 5.5 inches without shoes). He does not have the size to play the SF spot, and guard bigger/stronger guys like Lebron James or Carmelo at the 3 spot. I think Lamb will be there at 8, Barnes will be gone, and Marshall will be there as well. Lamb or Marshall should be the pick if Toronto does not move up.

Fran Fraschilla argues here that he would take Jeremy Lamb over Bradley Beal:
(It's a long article, so you'll have to read the rest to get his reasoning behind that decision)

Personally, I'm leaning towards Lamb because of his size, length and effectiveness in an NBA offense's "sweet spot," the 15- to 18-foot range. And, I'm willing to overlook the Huskies' dysfunctional season with Lamb as their centerpiece because I can't ignore the poise he played with as a freshman. And, he did go for 23 or more points eight different times this season, despite the team's poor chemistry.

If Lamb is taken before Beal due to scoring need from teams before us, then we're gonna be so screwed when all 4 wings are taken in top 6. We half-ass tanked this season for none of Lamb, Beal, Barnes or MKG. That's frustrated.
