Wouldn't they have said that if it were actually a week? The fact that there's no timetable for return sounds like they either haven't examined the injury well enough or they don't want to release how long it will actually be.

If the medical staff say that the calf strain isn't that serious then it's probably a grade 1 strain. Those strains still allow you to walk around with feeling a little bit of discomfort and soreness. With treatment those strains heal up in about a week to two weeks. He might miss a bit of training camp but should be good for preseason.

Surprised to hear its a calf strain and not a sprained ankle

to be honest, i'm VERY surprised.
not sure how the boot will treat a calf sprain, other than preventing dorsiflexion. but there are other less cumbersome treatments for calf sprains.

I snapped an exclusive shot of the Raptors medical staff as they were deliberating on Valanciunas' injury:

the problem with the walking boot that some of my pts have is the height difference between the 2 legs. they find that it hurts their other hip or their back. body compensates for the difference in height and it throws everything off.

Yeah, dorsiflexion, that's what I was thinking

If the boot holds his ankle in the same position, he'll be unable to plantarflex or dorsiflex to any real degree.

Usually a cast is to prevent further injury, not a treatment.

Best treatment for muscular strain is rest, massage, and heat (to increase circulation.)

As long as we're talking muscles and not ligaments or tendons it's no biggie.

Smh, this is another reason why the Raptors should have drafted Drummond...

Casey said above that the boot was only put on literally for the short time period between JV hearing the pop on the court and getting the full diagnosis. So it was entirely pre-cautionary and so he isn't wearing it anymore.

Was just about to post this. He's being treated based on his day to day symptoms.

...because we expect Jonas' leg to be injured for the next three seasons?

After all, its gonna take that long for Drummond to be an effective NBA player...

Right?

I'm dealing with a grade 2 calf sprain right now. Hoping its just a class 1 depends if he has bruising and blood in the ankle region. Depending if its a class one or two it could be anywhere from 2 weeks for a grade 1 and 4-6 weeks for a grade 2 depending on how fast he heals. Usual treatment is rest, compression, massage, ice/heat, range of motion and strengthening exercises for the calf and other leg muscles. Hopefully he heals 100% so he doesn't have a reoccurring injury like Bargs.

Right?

I don't know, they said Andrew Bynum was extremely raw and if it wasn't for injuries Bynum would have been a dominate player after his rookie season...Drummond is more athletic and already has a sense of defense, so if he works hard he could quickly become an effective NBA player too...In addition they said Greg Monroe had no motor, and look what the Pistons got out of him...I can't believe the Raptors passed on a 7ft 280lbs guy, Drummond would have been a good fit...

Bynum as a 18yr old rookie showed more offensive potential than Drummond ever showed. Remember this move?

When the hell did Drummond ever do a post move? Never mind on prime Shaq.

^Drummond has been compared to Amare Stoudemire and D. Howard...Drummond is extremely athletic so we shouldn't expect him to do a slow post move like that...Right now Drummond is more defensive then anything, so his offense will probably come along slowly...I think the Raptors will regret passing of Drummond by the mid-point of this season...
