Oh the hierarchy of what went wrong and what was our downfall, its this;

1. Not finding a replacement scorer for Kyle Lowry, expecting Kyle to play like his former self

2. Letting Kyle still exist on this roster.

3. Nick nurse instead of Budenholzer or an experienced coaching staff

4. Marc Gasol trade.

1. Not fighting harder for first seed. Could have just played detroit then boston. It would be a way easier path because we match up way better against celtics.

Rap fans!!!
Cheer up

It’s not over. Still a lot of games to play!
Plus... statistically. Embiid is going to miss a game soon
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

This first paragraph is why some will never understand how smart Gasol us defensively. He’s not flashy, he’s not super quick, but he gets to his spots and is always in the way. And he held Embiid to 12 on 2 of 7 and 16 on 5 of 18 shooting if you watched the previous two games. Second one he wasn’t feeling great but still played a lot of minutes, so it couldn’t be that bad. Seems that if he can do that the next two, we should be in a good spot.

As for offensive rebounding we have matched them each game I believe.

I've never seen anything like this. It's like half of the fanbase sees that Gasol is washed up and no longer effective, and the others think he's the greatest thing since slice bread. If this was any other big man not named Gasol giving you the same performance in the same amount of minutes, you wouldn't endorse it. There's a built in faith in the Gasol name that some of you have that's unjustifiable, when it's clear that the reason Memphis had as bad of a year as they did was because he declined in all facets of the game significantly.

I cringe when I see him guard Embiid. There's nothing smart about not moving your feet on defense and sticking your arms straight up in the air, hoping that you'll somehow alter his shot when he's a step ahead of you on every possession.

FYI, we've been out rebounded 144 to 111 through 3 games. The parking Gasol out on the perimeter to set a screen and play hot potato until someone shoots a brick while there's no one under the rim to get a rebound doesn't seem to be working. Put Gasol in the post, force him to earn his paycheque making baskets in the paint, and if he's such a great passer, let him make his passes from there to cutters or men on the perimeter.

I hardly think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I think JV was a bad defender. We have 4 solid defenders and one weak link that would get spammed at. Like Cleveland did, over and over splaying smaller and faster. You guys look at points and rebounds. I look at defense first. We held them under 100 points in two of three. I look at team rebounding.

He held Embiid to inefficient shooting the first two games. I have no idea what you are seeing. If Emdiid outscores Lowry from three, well, we are done. But I'm happy to let Embiid shoot threes. And when your chest to chest without fouling and are 7'+, yeah it works.

Offensive rebounding is a wash. That's not why we are outrebounded. It's because we are missing a ton of shots. We are the worst right now in making open looks. And probably taking open shots. I fail to see how JV takes or makes open threes to fix that.

I don't disagree that they could play him some higher in the post and pass or handoff to cutters. But he's also a good passer from anywhere. One thing I do dislike is him shooting from the corner. Not sure why that even happens, except as a ruse.

What kind of comment is that? You know that shooting 3's was not JV's strength. But when the shots aren't dropping for the other guys, at least you could count on JV to get you points in the paint, until the other guys' shooting gets back on track.

I still like the trade, as much as I LOVE JV.

I will say this though, I'm blown away by next to no post presence. I thought Marc would have some post game.

JVs points in the paint came at the cost of spacing and other players FG%. He could put up points, but he also gave up points. The point was we didn't make threes. We lost because of our shooting, specifically from 3. If you think we were going to revert to posting up JV and not shooting from outside, we weren't. I'm not sure howmany times I need to say he would give up ponts and they would go at him continually. It keeps being ignored, but we saw it all through the past. That's going back in time.

If Demar played with Marc as he did with JV vs. the CAVS last year, you would see a lot more defensive breakdowns as well. No need to go to the past. I shudder at the thought of guards and quick SF beating demar off the dribble only to be met with no rim protection from Gasol. I'm not saying JV was a stud on d but he was effective at protecting the rim. This year JV's defense and Marc's defense was a wash. Fans here don't seem to comprehend how bad Marc's overall defense has become worse year after year and how JV's has gotten better especially when he had pascal, kawhi and danny playing in front of him. Marc does not get rated only on man to man defense, he has to also be able to protect the rim and rebound as well.

On the offensive end JV could shoot threes but that was not where he was most effective, he led the whole team in true shooting percentage, when you struggle to score, trust me you want your most efficient scorer on the floor and that was him.

JV would have been very effective in this series, he also would have tired out Embid on the defensive end as JV is able to score efficiently on Embid as well. This is shown here and in the first game he shot 8/14 and second game 9/13: http://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=401071040&wsVar=us~nba~gamepackage,desktop,en

People discounting JV's ability to help us win this series either have amnesia or simply don't understand basketball

 JV and Derozan now. Get over it and watch the game. I'm tired of talking about bad defenders that aren't here for that very reason, and excuses for JV. Team rebounding is the same, defense, net rating, all of its says we are better with Gasol, and those are facts, not rhetoric.

I could post box scores where Embiiid dominated the Raps with JV as well, but one game sample sizes are pointless.

Lmao you were the one that brought up the cavs series and then when I go back to the past you roll your eyes but when the past fits your narrative you make it convenient for you to use. Keep your rolling eyes to yourself hypocrite.

My post was meant to denounce your false claim that JV would not help us win, already in this game they are getting to the rim easy with Gasol on the floor. Maybe you should just watch the game.

I love JV but how Gasol played against Vucevic was huge for us. If not for having Gasol we'd have really struggled against the Magic

Too bad we didn't already have Kawhi when Bud was still undecided. He didn't want to coach a team led by DeMar/Lowry.

Guess Gasol does make a big difference unless you want to ride or die on a one game sample size.

he played better but his rim protection still needs to improve his pnr defense was also not great this game but putting in serge beside him was a good balance, we need that type of production from him for the remainder of the series if we are going to win or continue to hope embid stays hurt

His defense was very good lol. And Embiid had the flu last week.
