Re: Trade Deadline Discussion & Rumours (Thursday 3pm) - Raps and NBA
People have to keep in mind that the Raps can really only take on money for this year and next. Because after next year, VV and GTJ are both free agents and will likely get big increases. And soon after that, the Raps have to deal with OG and Barnes.
It's extremely unlikely the Raps take back a big money player signed for multiple years. They will likely target players with only 1 year left after this one.

Reddish is young enough to be considered a legit prospect and he would get heavy minutes playing from our bench. Reddish is someone I would trade the n1st for considering he would be part of our core moving forward
Would only do it if it was heavily protected. Cam isn't worth a 1st straight up.

Yes this seems the best way to play it knowing our cap crunch after next season (July 2023)
If we can get HOU to add draft compensation to offload Gordon, I'd do it

this. If they want to get rid of him, no reason to help them. Give them 2 2nds.

I don't get the interest in Cam Reddish.
He has a track record of sucking. He sucked in college and has sucked for the duration of his time in the NBA. He shows flashes in the way streaky shooters do on occasion but has never been able to put together a string of consistent play.
He also has injury concerns, he averaged 41 games played his first 3 years.
He's also on the last year of his rookie contract, so we'll have to pay him for the privilege of trying to develop him into a decent NBA player.
There's also this:
https://nypost.com/2022/02/07/tom-thibodeau-didnt-want-knicks-to-trade-for-cam-reddish/
It doesn't ring alarm bells that the Knicks are possibly looking to move him after like, 2 weeks?
THIS is the guy some are willing to give up a 1st for?
GTJ/FVV/OG are soon going to be up for new deals and having good players on rookie deals is going to be hugely important. 1st round picks are extremely valuable and shouldn't be thrown away on other team's failed developmental projects.
BTW All of this applies to Mo Bamba and a few other young players that have been talked about recently.

However, another NBA personnel man who spoke with the Hawks about Reddish said the issue felt larger.
“It goes beyond wanting more minutes,’’ he said. “Cam thinks he should be the No. 1 option on any team. It’s good to be confident, but there was feelings he wanted things handed to him.’’

finding players that are ok playing the roles asked of them is important. It's what concerns me most (well, besides the injury issues) about potentially acquiring Turner.

Don_Draper wrote:Pacers continue rebuild, deal Turner to Toronto
Toronto Raptors receive: Myles Turner, Buddy Hield
Indiana Pacers receive: Goran Dragic, Chris Boucher, Khem Birch, Malachi Flynn, 2022 first-round pick, 2024 first-round pick
Note: This deal would need to be split into two separate transactions due to the Pacers recently acquiring Hield via trade.
The Raptors have surprised with how well they've played in what was expected to be a rebuilding season after moving on from face of the franchise Kyle Lowry. They currently find themselves only two games out of first place in a division that is wide open with the complicated situations in Brooklyn and Philadelphia.
The addition of Hield would bolser the Raptors' perimeter game with one of the best 3-point-shooting wings in the league, further stretching the floor for their talented forwards to operate while slotting him next to Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr.
And Turner, if he returns healthy from the stress reaction in his foot, would fill the big man role the Raptors had previously split among three players. Turner would provide optimal shot-blocking, rim protection and 3-point shooting to finish one of the more dynamic frontcourts in the NBA next to Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby and rookie Scottie Barnes. This deal would push the Raptors into the luxury tax, but the resulting lineup would be strong at both ends of the court.
The Pacers already appeared poised for a rebuild, with a team full of veterans that was all but fixed at the 13th spot in the Eastern Conference, eight games out of the play-in game. They started that rebuild by dealing both of their leading scorers in separate trades, with Sabonis headed to the Kings and LeVert to the Cavaliers.
The proposed deal gives Indiana two expiring deals and two first-round picks to help them jump-start the rebuilding process this offseason. Boucher is also, in many ways, a developing version of the Turner template as a shot-blocker who likes to shoot 3s. This deal would give the Pacers the chance to try him out, as well as Birch and Flynn, to see if any might be worth retaining as part of their future.
Git er done Masai.

One of the few times where it's clear someone from the US media actually knows the Raptors lol.

It's one of the reasons why keeping the puck may be best. None of our core 5 will be happy about being on the bench in cruchtime. And if the player we get back is good enough to play in crunchtime....they probably won't be happy about the bench in cruchtime either.
We could possibly create discontent AND lose our pick. A vet college, nba-ready pick will be ok with a bench role their first couple of seasons.

Turner is no longer available, off the table. All we need is a Nurkic in which u have to give up boucher and a 1st probably, use dragic and flynn and 2nds to get proper bench help, specifically a guard a la Eric Gordon

People should brace themselves for a very minor deal that doesn't move the needle.

I think Indiana made the decision to trade Sabonis and build around Turner well before this deadline. Sabonis probably would have gone elsewhere if not to the Kings

Why would we give up a 1st for an expiring Nurkic, that doesn't make any sense.
No one is giving up a 1st for Nurk
No one is giving up a 1st for Nurk

The cap is going to go up a lot in a couple of years so Masai has everything aligned.

Is this true? The cap is going way up in 2025 if there's no smoothing, so we could just pay the tax one time in 2024 and get back under. And we're probably not going to be a big free agent destination, which is why we should be rooting for smoothing I guess since the last time it created the possibly unbeatable KD Warriors, who you may remember we did beat, which was real nice, though it might not have happened if they'd stayed healthy.
Where's the D?

Deadline is at 3PM while the games are at 7PM. It's not really a big deal imo.
