Do you mean two deadlines ago, with Kyle?

Not sure how he didn't blink a year ago

I think he means Masai earned some negotiation credit by not selling Kyle Lowry cheap (not blinking), which will pay off at this deadline when he attempts to trade FVV and GTJ. However, I don't think it matters that much, maybe get a 10% boost in return.

A bigger factor in us getting more offers this time is the fact that both FVV and GTJ have easily tradable contracts at 22M and 18M, compared to Lowry's 30M which was harder to match salaries with.

Yeah I was just clarifying because he said last deadline, which means last year with Thad. Which was not a blink/don't blink situation I don't think

FO doing the right thing fielding offers to see what his value is. His value will diminish once he signs a much higher contract.

Would be sad though if FO trades OG instead of Fred.

It takes two to dance. who will offer these exorbitant contracts..

Well, Portland did offer that according to the report. Just that Grant turned it down allegedly. He may come to regret it though.

That's the max he can get right now just like fvv.
In off-season can sign for 5 years 233 like fvv. But won't get as much just option to get more years and dollars.

Yeah for sure, but seems like a risky move for a high-end role player. If POR decides to rebuild/retool instead he could end up losing money. Good for him though if it works out.

In his latest pod, Windhorst said “OG is not on the block. I know there are people trying to get him on the block. But he’s not there right now”.

I wonder who he’s referring to with “people trying to get him on the block”. His representation? Other teams?

could be both. Klutch has operated like this in the past.

Haha wow. Yea totally erased that for the good of my health. Two deadlines ago. Thanks for clarifying.

Either way, I think Masai is doing all the right things on the surface to gain leverage. I just hope he follows through now

With OG getting injured (hope he is okay), it is now guaranteed that our road trip will be a terrible one. His wing defense will be missed terribly.

I think Bobby and Masai will be forced to take action to the deadline whether they wanted to or not.

Masai looked sad out there hopefully a deal wasn't screwed up cuz of this wrist injury. Either way, I'd rather keep OG.

The Pelicans could be up against the Luxury Tax next year and to move someone like Devonte Graham they will need to add incentives. Graham has a contract of $12.1 million next year.

Since Thad Young only has a buyout of $1M next year, he could be used as an expiring to help teams clear space for next year.

So we trade:
Thad Young + Flynn
for
Devonte Graham + Lottery Protected First

We end up picking up $7.5 million extra cap hit next year (save Young Buyout+Flynn's Contract). Which I don't mind as we are not contending.

You can also change Flynn to Banton I suppose, which would save the Pelicans a few extra million for next year. I would then ask for an extra second rounder in that situation.

Other teams.
His representation and OG himself know he will not get the same opportunity to be a 20-pt scorer an another team (Pels, Grizz, Knicks...)

on pace for 25-31 so far

16 games until trade deadline including last night vs Charlotte. I guessed our record. I will update after each game.

(17-23)

Jan 10 - Charlotte - W (18-23)
Jan 12 - Charlotte - W (19-23)
Jan 14 - Atlanta - W .... Loss (19-24)
Jan 16 - @ NY - L .... Win (20-24)
Jan 17 - @ Milwaukee - L (20-25)
Jan 19 - @ Minnesota - L (20-26)
Jan 21 - Boston - L (20-27)
Jan 22 - NY - W (21-27)
Jan 25 - @ Sacramento - L ... Win (22-27)
Jan 27 - @ G.S. - L (22-28)

Jan 28 - @ Portland - L
Jan 30 - @ Phoenix - L
Feb 1 - @ Utah - W
Feb 3 - @ Houston - W
Feb 5 - @ Memphis - L
Feb 8 - San Antonio - W

Feb 9 = Trade Deadline.

7-9 record as per above (24-32). But lets say we get 2 extra wins and go 9-7 instead, we would be (26-30).

To put things in perspective on Feb 9 of last year (deadline was Feb 10), our record was 30-23.

If it is. Just trade him. Why would you go into next season with a guy who doesn't want to be here and is in his walk year.

Wiretap article says Pels want John Collins, would send defensive players to Hawks.

If true they aren't trying for OG

John Collins and Zion is a terrible fit. That rumors was probably released by Hawks. OG and Zion is a much better fit
