Re: Nick Nurse appreciation thread!
Nobody forced Nick Nurse to completely lose the room last year. Nobody forced his countless bad coaching decisions down the stretch of games. And surely, nobody forced Nurse to publically quit on TV.
No Harden, no problem, just add defensive depth like Batum, Roco etc. by accident that fit the team better and give credit to Nurse.

he's good but he's someone who still rides his top guys a lot of mins
Tobias harris and maxey are top 10 in mins
his guys outside the top6 don't play a lot of mins
Joel embiid gets gifted fts on the regular and Maxey is unguardsble on the perimeter. I'll reserve my judgement on nurse and the sixers until the playoffs. People are acting like Joel embiid wasn't already an mvp before nurse and that the sixers haven't already been one of the top teams in the east before nurse... btw Maxey is now averaging 38 mpg. So nurse is still gonna nurse.
I think you gotta give him a decent amount of credit for how great the offense is when they essentially swapped out one of the best creators in the half court ever in Harden and really got back some 3/D guys only. Nurse is already proven in the playoffs too, idk if Philly has the juice to win it all but Nurse has them looking pretty great rn.

Did you watch the video that prompted the bump in this thread? He has them playing a much different style right now. Less iso post ups, more handoffs getting Maxey working in space. Embiids playmaking has also improved, in part because the schemes have him up top more where the reads are easier and he can map out the court better.
Also you're joking if you thought anyone would think swapping Harden out for Batum and Roco would help their offense lmao. Losing that level of talent for just low scoring depth guys and not missing a beat offensively is impressive.

Are you implying Harden is a bad offensive player? Because that's just not true even in the small sample size this year. The clippers working in another huge usage star was gonna be an adjustment and he's clearly not in the best shape (his fault but also a fact).
Even with all that he's averaged 16 5 5 on 68% True Shooting. He's still an elite playmaker and a good shooter tho not at the level he used to be.

It's more that Harden dictates a lot of how you have to play. You can preach a lot of motion and cutting and off ball shooting but Harden is going to be a big ole fly in the ointment for that.
That's why anyone wanting to trade to Harden at some point in the last couple of years can forget about Scottie developing. As he said himself, he is the system.

He should have been our coach Pop if he'd been given better roster after 2020

If they still had Doc Rivers with the players they have now they wouldn't be nearly as good

Coach Pop found a way of having a functional offense without taking 3s in the DeRozan years. Zigged when others zagged.
FYI, Darko is playing Pop style offense.

Nope. Just their defence and overall play, just as losing them killed the clippers.

And the common thread, and yet the clippers lost their depth and defence….yikes.

Re: Nick Nurse appreciation thread!
I think Nurse's exit had a lot more to do with discussing his contract situation unprompted right before the playoffs than his actual coaching performance. Questioning your future in your current role is probably not a good way to keep your job.
Nurse is a great coach and I will forever be grateful for 2019, but it was probably best for both sides to split. Nurse probably works best as a coach for a contender than a team re-tooling anyways.

SAS had some down years after Kawhi came to us. Did Pop ride his best players to the detriment of developing whomever he was given to work with? Did SAS have pecking order problems? Did Pop let his starters do whatever the hell they wanted on offense? Did he implement defensive schemes that only a championship team could maintain for long periods of time?
When Pop had less talent, he wasn't fired.

Masai's ego built the championship & Masai's ego has destroyed us since.
Nurse is in a place he'll be appreciated as one of the better coaches in the league.
'losing the lockeroom' with a team full of ego driven players playing well above their heads was a refection of poor team construction and is being slung around here as a narrative to put the blame on Nick.

No, that team was there before in place. Losing the room is because he didn't mamange any of it right, from rookies to veterans. I'm not sure why people feel a need to point fingers away form Nurse when he's clearly repsonsible for losing the room. How the **** do you blame a GM because he has some veterans on his team for a coaches failure.

The GM is responsible for everyone on the roster and the head coach. When things go wrong, it is appropriate to direct the majority of the blame towards the GM. Just like in any other business. Its their responsibility to handle the situation.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Re: Nick Nurse appreciation thread!
I'm happy for Nick, he should absolutely be getting his flowers as a brilliant tactician. The Philly situation is right in his wheelhouse.
I'm also thankful he's as FAR as possible from Scottie. I agree the FO is to blame for the state of the roster, but Nick also stubbornly clung to maximizing on court results (max MPG for starters, Pascal/Fred iso's in the halfcourt) in lieu of a longer-term plan.
Darko is the right coach at the right time for this roster, and it seems coach & FO are finally on the same page. Nearly all of his quotes involve some form of building up the players they have, which at least exposes their ceiling and allows the FO to make informed decisions in transactions.
Semi-related, I loved this quote in the Pistons post-game, which speaks to leaning into Scottie's strengths and mitigating his weaknesses:
Darko has smartly moved away from forcing Scottie as a traditional PG in the half-court and leaned into his strengths as kind of a roving "Safety" (football) on the defensive end, which has led to a crazy increase in steals/blocks.
Anyways, the current setup is ideal for a) maximizing Scottie and b) finding out what you actually have in the young guys. I'm happy with that.
