It's not BBQ anymore. It's RIBS.

What is with the obsession with player options.

Good catch. Adjusted below.

Nice

so we will have roughly (depending on where we land with the pick) $1,057,687 (including Blazers 2ndRP) for 1 more spot

to make it to the 14 floor

Excellent. Signing Ingram to a sub-maximum extension right now is great. I have no problem with the player option. If he exercises the option in 3 years that probably means he is outplaying his contract, which is a good thing.

The best part of this deal is that Igram doesn't feel he has to play a bunch down the stretch to prove himself for a new deal. That's a win.

We have to add a backup big. We can’t roll into next year with Mogbo as the only backup 4 OR 5. Something is going to have to give. If we’re planning on dodging the tax next year something has to give. We don’t have much (if any) flotsam to jettison to make a tax dodging move.

Maybe Grady for one of the Nets firsts. Not their best one obviously, but #19, #23 or #26 would save us enough money to squeeze in 14 players, and we draft a big. Nets might prefer a young shooter to a 4th rookie. Say they sign Kuminga to a big deal, Russell to a big amount but short term deal to keep flexibility, and draft a PG:

Claxton-Sharpe
Kuminga-#26
CamJohnson-#19
CamThomas-Dick
Russell-#6

and we look like:

Poeltl-#23-Chomche
Barnes-Mogbo-#40
Ingram-Agbaji-Battle
Barrett-Walter
Quickley-#5-Shead

Could also see RJ moved for say John Collins, or to the Bulls for Vucevic or Zach Collins + Jevon Carter + 2nds, they have an extra big man now.

We'll see where we pick and who we pick. That's first off. Maybe we end up with the 7th pick, tax isn't a worry and who the hell knows what position we're going with, or if we trade up or down.

I don't think we're moving Agbaji, feels like the return would have been highest this deadline, since he's cheap and would play lots of minutes for a team with little depth (Knicks, Bucks, Nuggets, etc..).

Wayyyy too early to make that call. McCain is hitting on a pick, Jakobe is still TBD.

It's even way too early to say McCain is hitting on a pick. Ahem to MCW and Tyreke Evans...

Sure, but one would acknowledge there are degrees of early success. Jakobe has not separated himself from the pack at all yet.

You might as well include him 100% because there's no way he's the one being let go.

He was the 19th pick who missed training camp.

What exactly was he expected to do?

Ah yes....the people who kept getting the response "so he's taking a pay cut? "

Those people kept saying 35 just to make whatever number that came up sound bad.

Nothing, just pointing out he hasn't really done anything one way or another to say that it was an especially good pick.

Don’t like it at all for someone so injury prone. Just asking for trouble

I think with someone like Ingram, who has injury issues, it gives the organization flexibility. If he doesn't work out, the organization can easily pivot and isn't stuck with a crazy contract.

This essentially gives the team a year to figure some things out and see how everyone fits together.

With BI's player option, they'll have to be considering extensions for both BI and RJ in the summer of 2026. And if Jak declines his player option, he'd also be a free agent that year. Ochai will also likely need a potential extension to begin that summer.

So I really hope they can start out next year relatively healthy, unlike this year. Those months before the trade deadline next year will be crucial to gaining team cohesion and figuring out how everything looks before some tough decisions start looming again.

That said, I'm pretty excited to see how it's all going to look. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Honestly, can anyone think of a time where a player got a max extension while being indefinitely out and never having played for the team?

The three year maximum extension with PO shows you the zero leverage we had. I hope it works out but this FO, man they love digging holes.

I'm ok with the numbers but not ok with the player option. I guess it was a way to get him to lower the dollars? Sort of bet on himself and his health? We have a short window to see how good he is. I would suggest that if things don't work out in 2 years, maybe they use the opportunity to blow it up and start over. I'm all for giving the core a chance to go but the window to do so shouldn't be too extended cause the way it's built has been flawed from the get-go with too much time wasted in no man's land with bits and pieces of patchwork of a core trying to go for a quick fix-up rather than allowing it to be built more organically from ground up.

For now, nothing to do but wish for best lottery luck.

Isnt a player option less flexible? If he is bad he opts in and if he is good he opts out. There is only downside to the team, unless you want him to opt out after 2 and deem that a perk.
