One consequence of this move is that we're out on Giannis when he comes available. He was likely vetoing a trade here if we moved out Barnes anyway, but he certainly isn't coming here if Masai isn't part of the package.

Maybe he actually wasn't super forced out and actually wanted to leave for a while.

If he got a contract extension i assume he would've stayed but Ed Rogers has been trying to push him out for years and with Larry gone it was only a matter of time

I suspect they'll leave the front office as is and remove Masai's role, as they did for the Leafs. And Pelley will speak for the team more often.

Yes, the idea that he's been a top-tier GM post-chip is nonsense. People wanted the Masai of last decade to helm the team. We never got that.

But Masai brought a level of credibility that as a Canadian-based team, we needed.
Getting free agents was already a nightmare, Masai at least made it somewhat possible. Retaining our own will also be more difficult.

I miss the days of the original Blue Jays (Labatts) ownership: hire good people, provide resources they need, and stay out of their way.

Exactly Masai is very well respected in NBA circles. The players love him too. Who wouldn't the guy is an amazing success story only Ed Rogers the silver spoon bafoon has an issue with him.

As a Raps fan from 95 this is a very dark day. I fear we will go back to irrelevancy.

There was always a feeling with Masai here that we will be OK.

Im a 95'er too.. and 100% what yopu guys are saying.

Honestly, 3 decades of Raptors ball... and Masai made it easy to relax with the future of the team. Now were going right back into punch line territory... every NBA team.. heck, sports franchise, in the world will be calling about him... but Ed Rogers needed a cheap yes man instead. ugghhhh.. so f#king annoying...

There’s people on this board that should be happy about this where are you?

Also wtf out of nowhere this is a shock. As much as I questioned some of the draft picks and direction, I didn’t think masai needed to be fired.

Rogers is more focused on making money. I don’t think it’s all doom and gloom like everyone’s making it out to be. Rogers will not accept mediocrity, so it’ll be tough for people who want a long rebuild.

Uhh you're kidding right... Have you been paying attention to the Jays for the past 9 years since hiring Shapiro/Atkins.

they were rogers choices to begin with thats why they lasted so long

now imagine if they had made a better choice

if we luck out and rogers makes a good choice for the Raptors and gives them the finances like they did the jays we are good for a long while. gotta make the choice a good one.

I would have cut him loose earlier before draft but maybe Bobby was already making all the decisions anyways.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Masai wanted Maluach. Bobby wanted CMB. Ed chose Bobby and Masai stormed out and is headed to Phoenix….

Is what idiots will soon be saying.

Yeahhhhhhhhh. I was pretty shocked they passed on Maluach, who was absolutely a Masai pick.

Hmmmmm.

Yep, and watch the Open Gym clip when Masai does the customary call to CMB after they drafted him. It was more cringy than past draft picks and Masai didn't seem to know what to say, then wanted CMB to look at the scouting team. Then you see Bobby so out of his shell, so excited like a kid in candy store and tell CMB "See I told you at dinner welcome to Toronto!"

lol yeah now we know why it was so awkward

At least 66% of you, disagreed with Masai 2 days ago, on not taking that Dumars trade. That speaks more about long term vision, and Masai knew he was exiting at the end of the year. So he likely took short term value over long term higher gain.

Both Shanahan and Masai had 1 year left on their Contracts. They couldnt just "quit". This was clearly an Executive Decision by Rogers.

So pretty much what you’re saying is Masai isn’t a top tier ship because of pretty much 1 year where he didn’t rebuild when he maybe should have?

He’s made immensely more good moves than bad moves. Even in the last 12 months with grabbing JKW/Shead/Mogbo/Battle, getting Ingram for cheap, etc.

Yall just haven’t seen the fruits of the last 18ish months yet so don’t appreciate it.
