The modern bigman really needs at least 2 of these qualities, if he doesn't, he's not really useful unless he's a unique talent like Jokic who defies all logic.
I mean, if most "modern" Cs fit that description I'd argue that they're not really useful, either. In fact, they're inherently replaceable and low value. If you can get a C that can produce offense, that's high value.

My main concern with Sengun is and always has been Nurse. It's easy to say we'll just tweak/change the system. We've had a lot of success playing five guys who all are expected to guard out to the three point line and make quick, timely help decisions. I don't know that Sengun can't do that stuff and he looks very capable in drop scheme but after watching the team punt on Len a few weeks into the season because he couldn't do it I think it's at least worth acknowledging he might not be a fit.
I have zero concerns on offense. Sengun looks like a stud. Personally I would take him, maybe above everyone other than the top 4.

He can play a couple years off the bench, Nurse is not that picky on that. God knows we need some offense on that unit. I'm not sold on Sengun or anything like that but at least he had 2 attributes that should help his defense: IQ and motor. I'd even hire Gasol to help him with positioning.

The G-League Elite Camp is the a first step for fringe draft guys to get showcased. The best of this camp will be invited to the Combine. Anyone have any bets on the stand-outs from this list:
I know bigs don't typically shine here, but the two I am curious about are EJ Onu and Orlando Robinson Jr.
EJ looks the part of a stretch five so it will be interesting to see him against higher competition. Orlando Robinson Jr. is a guy who recently showed up on my radar. 7 footer who averaged 15 and 9 as a sophomore along with some signs of outside shooting.
Spoiler:
Javonte Smart is probably my favorite guard of the bunch. Scottie Pippen Jr is a bit like FVV and one to watch, but Smart is a strong 6'4 PG who had 46%/40%/86% splits. He might be the best of this group.
Spoiler:

From that G league list? I like Omoruyi (even though they spelled it wrong). Good bench player. I expect him to go undrafted but we should sign him. From Rexdale.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Yeah, if we think he's a future 20-10 guy who won't be bad on D we take him and bring back Birch and play:
Birch/Sengun
Siakam/Boucher
and we're far better set up than most teams to play him 15-20 minutes a night while he improves defensively, especially with OG at the 3 and Van Vleet at the 1 knowing what they're doing.
Where's the D?

Brook wasn't a problem (we swept that mini-series in Milwaukee). It was RoLo who just crushed us in the last game against the Wizards. Fouling him didn't work, because he makes all his FTs.
But you can get size anywhere for the MLE or less. The emphasis with a draft pick should be on acquiring talent.

Legit dream scenario.
While I prefer Green the most, any of the top 3 and I'd be on Cloud f'ing 9 (assuming we didn't take Suggs over Mobley or Green). Not that I wouldn't love to have Suggs either but the other 3 to me are a notch above.

Baynes? You can get size anywhere, but you can't get rim protection at the MLE.

ItsDanger wrote:Kai Jones is discount Myles Turner. Needs work. Really someone you take based on potential. Could improve a lot so he's definitely interesting but not where we're picking. I view him as a trade target after first year.
Lol that is the laziest comparison I’ve seen for him yet. They both shoot 3s (not efficiently at all for one of them) and block shots and are tall, but other than that there’s no similarities. He’s insanely athletic and gets in a stance to guard guards. He clamped up Cade in isolation, Jared butler, and many more. Myles Turner is not doing that and he would be lucky to make it to half court by the time Kai Jones is catching his fast break lob. Completely different players.

Re: Draft Thread Part 4
Kai Jones is interesting because he has the potential to be a good on ball defender capable of defending multiple positions. His shooting also improved in his sophomore season - 3pt% from 29% to 38%, FT% from 63% to 69%. But his shooting is based on a small sample so he's no sure thing from NBA range. He was a very efficient scorer though and utilized his size/athleticism well. But he's still very raw and could completely flame out.

Morse Code wrote:I neeeeeeed Kai Jones on this team. He can guard point guards ffs. Everyone says he’s athletic but doesn’t know how to play basketball yet or have any elite skill, but that’s not true. He is an elite defender on the perimeter. Elite. He’s also an amazing lob catcher, rim runner, and shoots those pick and pops at about 39%. That sounds like true skills to me. He will be the fastest big man in the league once drafted. Like a taller, more athletic, way better shooting but worse rebounding rookie Siakam. Put a little more weight on him and put him through the nick nurse school of basketball and he could be special. Could be absolutely dominant.
I've argued that is the better big to roll the dice on but with the wings in this draft I pick Giddey over Sengun in the 18 department. Giddey has this presence where we'd have two players capable of running the offence. He moves like Jason Kidd at 6' 8.
