Been saying this for a while. All analytics point to Poeltl being one of the better players in this draft. Combined with his size and skill I'm finding very difficult to believe anyone else is the "the best player available".

In my mind this draft should be considered a top 9 not a top 8.

I bet if Delon got boatloads of playing time last year he would look a lot better than he does , I think Delon is going to be a very good player and if he ever got playing time he would prove it .

I would be fine with Poeltl, or any of the guys in DX's top 8 falling to us. I don't really want anyone that is below that.

I think DX has it absolutely correct.

Masai will be taking someone random as per usual.

I think Denver is smart enough to take him if he falls to them. And if for some reason they don't there's a good chance Vlade does the right thing and selects him. We needed to be 1-2 spots higher to benefit from that kind of drop imo (I suppose moving up is a possibility but I'm not sure what those teams would want to do it).

I really love the production, fit and skills from Sabonis, but Diamond Stone has tilted me in his favor. He is a bigger body, better length, more agility and hops, and he can finish with his left and right hand. He didn't show much in the way of passing in college, but I think he was a more diverse high school player:

He co-won Wisconsin State Player of the Year with Henry Ellenson. Of course Ellenson went to Marquette and had a kind of crappy team to put up numbers on, while Stone played on a senior team of NBA talents like Robert Carter, Jack Layman, Richard Sulaimon and Mario Trimble.

While at Dominican, Stone won four straight State championships. He was well over 20 and 10 each year, but he averaged 2 assists per game and was around 35-37% on threes. He kind of played only a back-to-the-basket center role in Maryland, which kind of hurt his production.

I think he ends up more of a PF/C in the NBA if he can keep his weight down and finds the right player development team. Toronto would be a great fit, especially with mentors like Lowry and Derozan.

I have a hard time to figure out his personality. He didn't seem like a worker in Maryland since he had conditioning issues, but once he figured out his role he played better as the season went on rebounding and blocking shots more over the last two months. He does seem genuine in accepting his blame on a not so perfect college career, and he has put in serious work on his body prior to the draft.

Plus, he is actually working out against other prospects. I respect him taking up the challenge.

I think Delon will be solid. That's why I was so high on him all last year and thrilled when Toronto drafted someone I wanted for like only the second time(Demar was the first.)
But I'm one of those who wants someone with higher upside and ideally someone better suited to playing beside JV long term. I'm hoping we get someone solid with the 27th pick, if it's not traded, in the event we draft one of the unathletic bigs.

Kind of silly how this drill's results are being used to try and generate hype for prospects. I'm sure DD does quite well at it too (we already know Bruno does), doesn't mean it translates to games at all

That and the fact he's playing for Nigeria in the Olympics is probably the extent of the reasoning they use to link him with our pick.

I don't even know anymore. Just don't want Poeltl or Skal from what I've seen. Wouldn't be really mad though, I trust Masai and it's not a 20+ pick. All I know is that an interesting night is ahead of us.

A lot of these dudes have crappy peripherals, statistically, especially compared to last year's draft, where you had Towns, Okafor, Russell, Turner, all show both actual play + projection. Now, this year's crop does offer upside, but I'd like to see a little more certainty rather than pure projection.

Deyonta Davis, actually, has both, albeit in limited minutes in his freshman year at 18 MPG. But, he boasted a 24 PER, 60 TS%, and a WS/48 of over .200, signaling a possible find later in the lottery, mid-first area. He could be this year's Myles Turner. Only thing questionable about him though, is his overall mentality. He seems like a Hassan Whiteside-type, where he will eventually get it together, but it may take some time.

He's also an older player. Maybe Masai thinks Gbinjie could contribute right away like Powell?

Givony and Woj did a podcast, some notes:
- Boston, Phoenix, Minnesota are very aggressive trying to get immediate improvements, Ryan McD might not see Bender or Chriss fully develop because he could get fired, so he wants older guys
- Thibs is enarmored with Dunn, NO likes Hield
- there is too many big men in this draft, look at G7 of Finals, only Thompson was a real big - I call bull$hit on this, Warriors lost because they didn't have Bogut
- teams want to stash guys, but not many want to be stashed

from boston board.
