This is exactly why I can see Masai trading down with Denver (15 and 19). Thon @ 15 is not bad and the 19th pick can be moved or used on Korkmaz. 27th can be moved for some VET like Vince.

I have no idea why you would think that.

Masai has said on MULTIPLE occasions (including the year end presser) that he doesn't have the roster space even for the picks we have now so there is absolutely no indication of him doing so, in fact given that he's far more likely to do the opposite and trade them away. Not trying to be rude to you at all but just kind of common sense says we're not going to designate 3 roster spots this year, 2 roster spots next year while still having Norm, Bruno and Delon (so 8 players in total - even if you move the #27 as you propose that's more than half the roster) which would mean we could only really retain our starting line up and all of Ross, CoJo and Biz would need to be shipped else where not to mention the cap hold caused by their salaries.

You're not the only one that's proposed this through multiple threads but it really makes absolutely no sense on a team that just won 56 games and made the ECF to do what you're proposing both based on roster spots and financially.

I was thinking instead of reaching for a guy like Maker at 9. Masai could trade the pick down for him @ 15. (The only person to have a roster spot next year along with Bruno, Powell, Wright)
The 19th I suggested would be used on a stash guy like Korkmaz or part of trade for a Vet piece.
The 27th would be used as a sweetener to get/free up some space via Ross Trade. (Bismack)

I understand that it doesn't make sense to have 3 picks this year especially when we were an ECF, 56 win team. It was a hypothetical because I can see Masai liking Maker but not wanting to reach 9 (Turning the 9th into more assets).

Hey I get it, but if anything the reverse would probably happen where he packages the 27th w/ the LAC pick if he was really enamored with any player but he has made it very public that he doesn't see how he can allocate the resources, the roster spots etc to developing a bunch of really young guys when he's looking to take the next step with the franchise.

Personally I think we only retain the Knick pick and everything else will be used or at least attempted to be used for upgrades for a starting PF and a back up SF.

@9 you take him and run no question about it.

FWIW, of all the guys that might drop to us I like Hield the least. Might get flamed for this, but he seems like a slightly worse OJ Mayo - another guy that a lot of people loved out of college and whose weaknesses really got exposed in the NBA.

I think the two are compareable in hype, and oj did have 2-3 good seasons in terms of production. Just got lazy, came into most seasons usually out of shape, didn't play good D etc. But Judging from his development each year I think hield has potential to be a superstar...may think very highly of him but I've also watched quite a few of his games including one live where he dropped 46 against Kansas. I was very impressed, worst case he's a bench player who shoots 3s...best case he moves into a point guard role due to his size and becomes a Damian Lillard type player. The guy still has a lot of time to grow and develop, he's only 22, spent 4 years in college, improved every single year and should be NBA ready...if there's anyone I want to drop its him. But if he's taken I hope we take Chriss if he's available

OJ Mayo is a lazy bum. Hield is totally different. He's a guy that works hard and loves the game. Mayo is a conceited, arrogant loser that only cares of himself. I do not see that from Hield at all. I remember that story of Mayo, in his last high school game, he took a shot from half court (made it), threw his jersey in the crowd and left in the middle of the game after dropping 50 I think. I'm not sure how true this is, but he had all the tools, he was just lazy af.

McDyess had two 20 and 10 years before the knee injury. He averaged around 18 and 9 during his peak years. Definitely could see Chriss becoming that type of player.

McDyess averaged 8 rebounds a game in 23.8 minutes of play, or 13.6 per 40 mins.
Chriss averaged 5.4 in 24.9 minutes, or 8.6 per 40 mins.

Their shot blocking numbers are pretty much identical and Chriss can shoot from range while McDyess was generally a poor shooter as a freshman.

Overall, it's not a great comparison. Very different players. Only similarities are their builds and athleticism.
Chriss averaged

McDyess played centre in college. Moved to power forward in the NBA. That's probably why he averaged those types of numbers in college only to put up mediocre rebounding numbers in the NBA. Still doing my homework on Chriss but from everything I've seen, looks like he could become that type of player. If he's a bust, maybe he's Marresse Speights/Tyrus Thomas. Speights is actually a pretty solid pro but him being Thomas would be disappointing.

It's funny how people completely dismiss Ellenson as a shooter based on his freshman percentages, and then praise the 22 year old Hield as the 2nd coming of Ray Allen. FYI: Hield's freshman 3p%: 23.8%

Just because Hield worked to become a better shooter doesn't mean Ellenson will be able to match that. Hield is the best shooter in the draft. He can create his own shot, use his dribble to get to the rim, and has good size for a wing. He's the most NBA ready player in the draft, in my opinion.

Lol. My point is: you are comparing a highly skilled 19-year-old freshman to a 22-year-old senior who needed four years of college to enter the first-round conversation.

Hield has good size for a wing? 6' 3.75 without shoes is piss poor size. Throw in his average-at-best athleticism and you have a problem. Who is he guarding in the NBA? Nobody. Throw a decent NBA defender on Hield and he will pretty much be useless.

Same was said about a guy in CJ McCollum and look at what he's doing in the NBA. Who was he suppose to guard? Hield's ability to pass even though he's a prolific scorer shows his feel for the game and history shows that guys can pass off of the point guard position in college means that there's almost zero bust potential when they reach the NBA.

Sorry guys, there's just too many guys that sound intriguing early in the draft process. It's too bad we don't have any 2nd rounders in this year's draft.

I don't know why people are so infatuated with Maker. We don't need another project on this team.

Not even close. OJ Mayo was hyped as the next big thing since his middle school days. He was basically the next coming. Nobody has heard of Buddy Hield until his senior year in college.

They're literally on opposite ends of the hype spectrum.

Again I like Davis as he a lot of tools that he wasn't allowed to showcase at MSU. His jumpshot being one of them. He's got a nice compact stroke with a high release point. He can definitely stretch it out to the 3 point line. For me the defensive upside with him is big and that's what I want to look for in a prospect. Can they defend now and get even better at that in the future. You can always develop your offensive game. Look at Powel he was a defensive guy first with a wonky jumpshot. We worked with him and he can now hit threes consistently.

Davis reminding me of Amir Johnson. He still has tons of room for development. I hope he goes to the right team.

His skillset fits perfectly with this team as well.
