Best believe the next president is going to be alot more corpo
This x 100.
I cannot STAND listening to Blue Jays FO speaking. It just saps my sports enthusiasm. And within 2 year we are definitely getting the basketball equivalent of a "years of control" spin job from whoever Rogers installs.
Ugh. This still sucks. It's like the day after Trump won. Just no silver lining that isn't years away.

And I’ve been advocating that the Jays remove the FO for 2 years now but it has nothing to do with their results (which are objectively good and far better than what MU has been churning out for the Raptors since 2020).
If the Jays had been performing like the Raptors have for this long now, they’d already be gone.
They are not a crapshoot. You need a good team to win. The jays teams have not been good. You can't look back at any of those wild card teams and with honesty say they were World Series contenders. They were all meh teams that everyone knew were going to get bounced.
The jays have been the definition of treadmill and their farm system sucks. How do you defend having a bottom 5 farm system while you struggle to make the wild card?
They are a crapshoot. If they weren’t, the Dodgers would win every season easily and nobody would even care. That’s how much better that roster is than every other team in the league.
And the Jays have objectively been a top 5-7 team in baseball since 2020. It is inarguably their greatest run of success overall since the early 90s. FOs generally don’t get fired when they are producing the best results a franchise has had in 3 decades.
Their time is undoubtedly coming soon though and I will relish in it when it does. Has nothing to do with results however.
It is hilarious you keep bringing up Jays and making playoffs, but conveniently choose to ignore that MLB playoffs have been expanded.
Blue Jays have had one of the highest payrolls in MLB, but have not even won a playoff game. Great front office there.

Also its great that the nepo baby is throwing money away in baseball, but basketball essentially has a hard cap, but one of the advantages you can give teams is invest in front office, coaches, facilities etc.

Have never once argued the Jays have a great front office. Quite the contrary actually.

Let Masai work through the draft.
Re-sign all his key people.
Fire him day after draft with still a year left on his contract.
Pay him 15 million this year to do nothing.
Rogers communications fellas.

Funniest part was saying they let Ujiri run the draft lmao so not only do we trust the direction/roster but we also let him do the ****in draft but we aren't gonna keep him. There were 2 options get rid of Masai + his team started fresh or keep them. They choose option C lmao

Unless they're hiring Sam Presti or Brad Stevens, it doesn't make any sense to bring in an outsider at this point. Just give Webster and Tolzman the shot they worked for the past 12 years and evaluate the team in 3 years. If it's not going anywhere, hire someone new and clean house.

Yes, but you are justifying nepo baby as a great owner, when he is the one who is keeping the front office in place. He had no issues letting go of a guy who actually delivered success in a cap league and is in process of completing a rebuild, but still has one of the best records in the NBA during his tenure, just because he happened to be black.

It'd make a bit more sense if we were just getting rid of the position entirely (in a scummy save money corporate BS kinda way). But they're gonna replace Masai? How cheap is the person that's gonna take this job where we could've let Masai play out this year and revist this again next year. You're paying 2 people to do a position you're saying has nothing to do with basketball lmao

Nepo baby or not, as long as he keeps investing more money into the Jays than any owner has in 30 years, I'm good with him.
And the Raptors have been one of the worst run teams in the NBA over the past 5 years. It's not really a mystery why an owner would not want to keep paying his top executive $15M to keep running that ship.

I imagine they both mutually came to the agreement that Masai would not work for the Raptors this year once it became clear a new contract was not in the cards. I also expect an agreement was made on compensation that would not involve him getting the full $15M but something less while also providing Masai the opportunity to go work elsewhere immediately if he chooses (which he otherwise would not be able to if it was a straight firing). That's generally the way these things go.

All this yapping about how expensive Masai is. If you can't afford to pay your lead executive the equivalent of the MLE, you shouldn't own an NBA team.
But that's what you get when your owner is using daddy's money and assets.

But let's keep his whole team and give them extensions, and pay raises...yup that makes sense!

The rest of them are undoubtedly making a small fraction of what he did and could be easily removed if necessary under a new potential regime (which may be coming depending on who they hire for the president role). Context is important.
