Team Canada Basketball Thread V3.0

Well gents...I'm leaving to Jakarta tomorrow to catch all of Round 1.
This has been in the works for a long time.

In a moment of "what if", I applied for Media Credentials a few months ago and to my shock they were granted last week.

What credentials do I have you ask? Well unless Twitter-RealGM-Basktball-Bro is a real thing, then nothing....
I'm sure it has much to do with only a couple Canadian media members actually going to Jakarta (might be three total including me), so they figured they may as well give one to me.

I don't know what I'm doing and I am sure no one is paying me for any half-ass content I can come up with. So I'll be treating this as a behind the sceens, uber-fan experience.

Congrats Mojo! You've always been one of the best contributors to this forum, so I'll appreciate any insights you'll have into Team Canada and the World Cup in general.

Beyond Twitter, are there any other outlets you're considering for your musings? Maybe even a simple blog or Youtube channel?

I really don't have the time for my own stuff, but I have guested on a couple podcasts. And will do more while in Jakarta.

I'll only be there for Round 1. I have a real job and a real family, so I felt that was all I can do. With the media pass I really should be staying for Round 2....damn.

Lot of these other teams just don't impress me much especially missing key players. If Canada focuses on efficient offense, they can make some noise here. I just hope they finish 2nd in Americas so they qualify for Olympics.

Those cuts make the most sense. While I appreciate his consistent dedication to the team, Thomas Scrubb wasn't very good in any of the games he played in the warmups, and is kind of redundant with all of the wing depth Canada has, especially wing defenders which is what he's good at.

And one of the guards was going to get cut as well. I'm guessing it came down to Phil Scrubb vs. Chery and Phil might be a more reliable shooter, whereas Chery seems a bit redundant with Bell-Haynes.

We should step off that 2015 FIBA Americas team as being that good. It really wasn't. It just seemed like a good team at the time.

It was led by:
Andrew Wiggins (1st yr) 15ppg
Nik Stuaskas (1st yr) 12 ppg
Kelly Olynyk (2nd yr) 12 ppg
Cory Joseph 10 ppg
Anthony Bennett (2nd year) 8 ppg

as starters and

Brady Heslip, Dwight Powell (1st year), Ejim, Heslip, Nicholson, P Scrubb as the main guys off the bench.

Not really a starter among them beisdes Wiggins.

What a young and inexperienced team in retrospect, leaning on a bunch of guys we thought were good at the time becuase they were high draft picks but actually were pretty stank (Stuaskas, Bennett etc.) Even Wiggins wasn't very good at that time.

The 2021 and 2022 teams were much better than 2015.

Like Canada, a pretty strong team that could be stronger except for injuries and "personal reasons".

Giddey runs a team with only one true centre in Reath.

Like Canada they will rely mostly NBA players with Inglis, Green, Thybulle and White getting major minutes.

Mills is always a danger when he gets hot.

White plays above his height and is also an X factor IMO.

Thybulle makes things happen as well.
