There's also a highlight video here for those who don't want to watch the whole game

not much to add but the turnout wasn't too bad, Duane Notice is a big dude for a guard, and Olu Ashaolu, a name I haven't seen in years was sitting near me

Hah....maybe we should get Olu out there? As recent as a few weeks ago he was tearing it up it he Philippines Basketball Association.
No idea if the PBA season just ended or he has left them, but he should be somewhat close to game shape.

I'm kidding of course, or am I?

Bhullar, Bhullar, Bhullar ...

Anyone but Klassen.

Get the retired Bobby Sacre out of retirement.

Why do we not know why Nicholson, Bennett and Hanlan were not even on the invite list when Rautins was even though he told CB he wouldn't/couldn't play according to Leo?

Instead of being stenographers and going to their pre-arranged media availability where they get a bunch of cliched nonsense, why don't the beat writers covering this team (Smith, Grange, Murphy, etc) actually do some investigative work for once? I know it would inconvenience their cozy arrangement. But they might actually come closer to fulfilling the role news media purportedly play in our society.

Did any of them reach out to the players who declined to get a comment as to why they did so? I mean how much load will Stauskas have to manage next year in Europe?!?

And if someone like Michael Meeks is on CB staff to build relationships with these guys at a young age in order to get buy in at the senior level, then he along with the GM appear to be failing miserably. What are they doing wrong?

Or, if pride of country just isn't a big thing for this generation, that's fine, maybe even a good thing, but as reporters do something to find out the why. Have a Network moment where you're disgusted with your slovenly selves and you actually get to the root of things. Jesus!

34 games in the Euroleague's regular season
3 games at the minimum in the Euroleague playoffs (Baskonia is a good enough team to qualify)
34 games in the ACB's regular season
2 games at the minimum in the ACB's playoffs
1 game at the minimum in the Copa del Rey

So Stauskas will be playing anywhere between 74 to ~85 games next season. And he will have a much bigger role with more minutes than he was ever used to in the NBA.

I have Ashaolu about par with Klassen, somewhere around the 15th to 20th best Canadian bigs.

Yup.
Does anyone look to these writers for NBA insights, given the wealth of other (better) NBA sources out there? They could at least meet a niche by providing useful Team Canada information/analysis.

The Thompson and Lyles pullouts were hardly surprising.
It is the absence of the 2nd and 3rd tier guys that is more unexpected.
Where are Bennett and Nicholson? Anthony and Trasolini? Even Landry, Bhullar and Bachynski? Why did Doornekamp pull out?

Given the lack of options, is Brisset a realistic option?

Has Wigginton signed with anyone on an Exhibit 10 deal or any other contract agreement?

If Brissett can be out there, why not Wigginton?

For a team lacking shot creators, he's already better in that regard than Notice, Best, and Keane.

I feel my concerns (and really flat out denial) of Keane and best being anywhere near our world cup roster seem justified today unfortunately. Nembhard likely cant play which means one of those guys (or both considering nurses 2/3 ph lineups, he was playing both with nembhard yesterday and might have even had a 4th at one point) is getting minutes. There are so many better alternatives

The fans at the Fiba World Cup don’t pay them anything they owe them nothing. Tell me that you won’t go to NBA games or watch them on TV if a player doesn’t play in the FiBA World Cup.

I don't know about Canada's players, but Team USA players definitely get paid. They might act like they play for free, but they don't. It was reported Team USA had a $200 million budget for the men's basketball Olympics in 2016. So they are definitely getting paid something. Unless we believe that all went to coaching, travel, training, expenses, etc. (which would be absurd).

Team Canada has a budget too. The players are paid in maple syrup by the barrel.

During the last Olympics, ESPN was talking about it in one of the games, or before or after, or maybe in a preview or something, I can't remember exactly, but I remember that was the amount they claimed. USA, Russia, China had biggest budgets. Brazil did too because they were hosting. So did Spain.

But USA's was ridiculously bigger than everyone else, and they said it's $200 million for every 4 year Olympics cycle. I don't know how much Coach K was getting paid, but no way in hell could the coaches cost that much. For a comparison, I think they said Spain's budget was like €20 million euros.

Maybe the $200 million was the budget for USA Basketball overall (all ages, male and female), but the way they worded it was - that was the budget for the senior men's team.

YES!
It's frustrating Canada Basketball will have to wait to showcase it's best roster. Out of curiosity has anyone seen Media Promo from FIBA about this World Cup?

The Klassen addition is to showcase U SPORTS!!

You do realize Stauskas was NBA 1st round selection who is playing in Europe. Asking him to rep Canada as an AMATUER athlete is clearly counterproductive to his development and career.

Everyone loves Kid Canada(America) cause he wore the red and white. Guess what Dude prefers B/R soccer over Canada Basketball.

Our support should be for Toronto's very own (Big Cat, TT etc.) who come back to the 416/GTA or and create Charity Foundations and try to make communities better.

Though I remember that Magloire was highly criticize throughout his career for refusing to play for Canada (until the end of his career when he sucked). He had the opportunity to play in the 2000 Olympics after he was drafted with Steve Nash but he blamed Triano and Nash blamed Magloire. Then Magloire refused to play for his country in qualifying tournaments after that.

I made the mistake of not buying a beer before the tip-off. I agree that this event was overpriced and poorly organized. The upper level concession lines were jam packed and had no visible pricing.

I asked an usher at the floor level if I go buy something at the pop-up concession stand but was denied.

Concessions were definitely poorly planned... massive lineups all night, I wasn't going to miss 20 min to stand in line, but was SO thirsty by the end.

I don't know how you could say the tickets were overpriced though, when it was a sellout

Got to be something going on with family or something similar. Maybe a sick or dying parent or grandparent?
