He's intriguing to me as a player to develop on the bench. There may be more upside to him then I thought.

If Scottie Barnes could shoot he’d probably be in discussion to go 1st. If we land in 6-10 range I’d take him and bet on him developing a shot

I prefer to go with Kai Jones PF/C, since I value a perimeter big who can defend over guards, so I am thinking the 2nd round pick would be a guard and a forward. I think these would be my preference:
Quentin Grimes PG/SG, RaiQuan Gray SF/PF
Want to look at Derrick Alston Jr. SF/PF as well

Very unpopular opinion but I wouldn't be surprised if Kai ends up better than Mobley. I don't think that will be the case but I don't think there's a 0% chance.

Kai doesn't have the wingspan to be better than Myles Turner, at least on defense.

He reminds me of a 17 year old Bargnani.

He can switch and guard 1 - 5. But yeah, he only has 7'1 (assume 7'2) wingspan, which is not enough to be a shot blocker.

Barnes seems like a good combo of low bust and high ceiling potential. Even if his development stagnates, he should still be a versatile two-way player who defends multiple positions and can handle some play making duties, perhaps in the Boris Diaw mold.

Barnes didn't even score much in high school. Doesn't get to the line much either, for someone big with a handle I think that's a little concerning, no? I'm not sure there's much hope for him to be anything other than what he already is. These days defense is dirt cheap. It gets more expensive if you can defend and knock in volume 3s. But by far the most valuable players score the ball and drive offense. If you have a pick in the 1-10 range there's a half decent chance at a star player, so I think it's best to avoid Scottie Barnes-types. After that I think you just have to find someone that can play in the NBA and call it a win. So if the pick slides into the late lottery to mid-teens, they should look into the Franz Wagner/Scottie Barnes/Davion Mitchell level of players.

Barnes can be a very valuable player on the right team, i just don't think its this team. We already have 2 stud defensive forwards and the lack of scoring from him just not tenable

Has there ever been a top 5 that all made at least one all-star team? Even a top 3? I doubt it. There will be good players throughout.

I am really hoping for a big SG/SF who can create their own shot - that is something that we are really missing on this team right now. If we want to start winning again next season, it is best to get our next big from either the FA market or through trade. I am okay with a developmental big on the side though.

Barnes reminds me of another OG type; I don't think we need another OG clone. Maybe Keon Johnson or Wagner or trade down for Zaire Williams?

2016 is the only class since the start of the 2000s to have the top 3 all become an all star
