That one stat about every single 6'6+ player with a 7'2+ wingspan drafted the last 6-8 years being a starter or star was eye opening (CMB is also on that list so we'll see how he pops)
Yeah that really, really might hurt lol
Tbt he was third on my draft board (technically 2nd because I rated Maluach higher just based on what I thought our FO would do but I had him just behind Bryant) but very, very early impressions look like he could be the steal that the pre-draft buzz says he was. He really could've been THE ideal SG in the starting line up with his size/strength & that's no knock on CMB...I don't think anyone doesn't like CMB as a player, it's just the FIT. Obv there's an obvious struggle with Scottie & CMB about how can that fit if neither can become an above average 3pt shooter, Coward could be near elite as a shooter which is what we've been hoping for from the position. I love JaKobe in particular but I don't really think any of them have true all-star caliber potential, I thought Bryant could (might still we'll see) but Coward is looking like he might have that too...
I feel a similar way but probably
not quite as painful as passing on Coward might be -- about Kyshawn George & Ajay Mitchell. The same way I got love for CMB, is for JaKobe - I really do love them as hard nosed players with good upside (CMB's higher) but just like Coward or Bryant might be the better fit, I feel like George could've been over JaKobe, we STILL need a backup 3, Ochai isn't a true one.
It obv would've helped spell any BI downtime (although we hadn't traded for him yet) but again I just thought of redundancy at the position (SG) and thought we'd take a greater position of need and UPSIDE. Ditto Mitchell over Mogbo, I never liked the pick but I felt kinda "whatever" about it, because it felt like a move to appease Scottie imo but I felt like I would've picked either Furphy or Mitchell. Truth is I think I had Furphy just slightly ahead because again we hadn't traded for BI yet, needed some sort of SF, thought he was worth a late gamble who should at minimum be able to hit a 3 and defend and it still might not amount to anything but I like him more than Mogbo...and Mitchell, I just have always wanted a taller PG and Ajay to me has the bball iq that I think he could be a "Nembhard'-ish type of backup. Tbt I thought/think he could be good enough to challenge a player like IQ for starting spot IF Quickley stays much the same as he has so far and doesn't break out. But I like both of those guys and will keep an eye on them in the same way you're probably doing with Coward...
