Oilers are just so talented that you never think they are out of the game. One of the most enjoyable hockey games I’ve seen. These whole playoffs have been amazing.

Oilers have defenders who can move the puck. That’s the major difference between the leafs and the oilers.
I believe in Masai.

Yeah we had an injured Auston Matthews. Let’s pillage more of the panthers and see where it goes.

I was kinda shocked that the oilers outplayed Florida. Let's wait and see how the adjustments go. I'm still saying Florida will start dominating play at some point which doesn't necessarily mean they will win.

Yeah that’s a big thing I notice as well. I still think the Leafs need a tough, rugged forward to play on one of their top lines.

Unfortunate ending. Have the Panthers found dominant mode again, not letting Oilers have space?

Yeah it’s going to be a great series. Oilers made adjustments last year and almost came back to win the series. I think this series will be back and forth. Two crazy games to start the series.

Your "great series" prediction is not wrong yet, but looking shaky.

If Panthers keep this up and win in 5, does that make the Leafs the 2nd best team in the league?

Question, if the NHL had the NBA's 1-8 playoff format rather than the division thing they do, would Leafs and Panthers have probably met in the ECF?

Watching the Panthers dominate makes me appreciate what a miracle 2019 was. Raps were able to get those dream wins you keep wishing the Leafs and Oilers could get.

No it does not mean that at all.

Why not, if only the Leafs took Fla to 7.

Because they rolled over on their back and put their tails up game 7. Sure, with some fine tuning they can be contenders next year. The West was a dog fight and NHL playoffs is a game of attrition. Oilers have always been a question of will the goaltending be there? I'd take Stars, Oilers, Jets, and Avs all easily over the Leafs. And likely Tampa. Maybe next year is different. I think Berube was a great choice as coach.

This playoff format has never been kind to the Leafs division. Wonder how many cup appearances it’s had the past few years. Florida, Boston and Tampa always seem to go to the cup.

Should we just apologize to the Leafs core, specially Marner and run it back

It has been reported, by numerous reputable Canadian media outlets, that the Leafs really did try and move Marner at the deadline, and went as far as asking him to waive his NMC. That relationship may be beyond repair now. Knowing him and his father, even if he was open to coming back, that will now cost the Leafs every last available allowable cent of the cap.

There are also reports that Tavares is wiling to take a huge hometown discount. I get it, it stings to let an asset like Marner just walk, and Tavares probably does make a ton of sense at a huge discount, but then congratulations, you just fielded the exact same team that has proven they cannot get it done. The common denominator has always been that core.

Goes to show that the Leafs were not the pathetic losers everybody claimed they are.

2019 - lost a close 7 game series to Boston who ended up going to the finals
2022 - lost a close 7 game series to Tampa who ended up going to the finals
2023 - lost to Florida who ended up going to the finals
2024 - lost a close 7 game series to Boston who had the greatest season in NHL history
2025 - lost to Florida who are in the finals

I don't know if it's crazy bad or luck or what but it's not like the Leafs are losing to bad teams, they are in hard fought close series with Stanley Cup contenders.

The Leafs remind of the Sacramento Kings of the early 2000s, the Suns of the mid-2000s, or the Clippers or the early to mid 2010s...great teams that just couldn't get over the hump.

Are you referring to Rantanen?... If so, it was reported he was willing to sign here, but Canes wanted Knies++ because Marner didn't want to go to Carolina.
