Well according to the OP, if Araujo all of a sudden came back and dominated in the center position in the NBA level. He somehow became the leading shotblocker, rebounder, and passer in the next 5 or so years, then we must have given up on him too early.

Hahaha. Yep. Camby was a big-time underachiever as a Raptor, even though he was pretty good defensively. We had serious issues with scoring during the Camby years and SAR having a much higher and earlier peak didn't help Camby's future in Toronto. He didn't put it together until he went to Denver.

And Billups was terrible in Toronto. He was every bit a bust (not a bust like Bargnani... a bust like Chris Washburn) until Dumars picked him out of the scrap heap.

There's no other answer. The future was not mortgaged with getting rid of these two players.
