My connection is from way back in the 95/96 season. A buddy gave me tickets to the Raps/Nuggets game for my birthday, and we took the trip out to the Skydome to watch them play. After the game we decided to chill out for a bit and hang out in the lobby of the Skydome hotel because we'd heard that the players exited through that way. While we were waiting, we struck up a conversation with a nice looking girl who was relaxing on the couches in the lobby too. As we were talking we told her that we were waiting around to see if we could meet any players. She told us that her boyfriend was Tracy Murray and that she was waiting there for him to come out. Pretty soon the players started streaming through the lobby (they came out through the kitchen in the restaurant there oddly enough), and Murray came right over to her. She introduced us to him and then asked him if he could introduce us to some of the other players. Tracy agreed and started calling the guys over. I got autographs in my game program from Damon Stoudamire, Doug Christie, Oliver Miller, Carlos Rogers, Jimmy King, Acie Earl & some bench fodder named Martin Lewis (who said he would only sign my book if I could actually point him out in the program). Tracy even stayed back and chatted with us for a bit afterwards with his girlfriend. I think he was in a good mood because he had just dropped 40 points on the Nuggets (even though they lost the game).

I also met Antonio Davis before a game in 2002, but that story is not very exciting.

I was staying at the Mandalay Bay, and I saw a few Summer League players, one looking like on of the Grahams (Joey or Stephen). Wasn't sure which one it was, so I went up to him and I asked are you Joey or Stephen, and he said Stephen. I unintentionally made him feel insignificant by saying "oh...". So I quickly tried to kill the awkward silence by saying that they look exactly alike, Stephen then said "Nah we look nothing alike" I then walked away to let him eat his lunch.

Writing this sounds made up, but this actually happened lol.

you must be awesome with the ladies :D

That's what I was thinking

LMAO, honestly I was just caught off guard, I really thought it was Joey. But yeah that was social interaction fail on my part.

Reminds me of another one, was at Inside Night Club about 4 years ago, just finished watching the Raps play the Sixers IN PHILLY mind you. Around 2 a.m. in walks TJ Ford and Luke Jackson, I realized then TJ was realll small, but I noticed him and shouted out "Good game TJ", Luke Jackson turns around and gives me props. My friend who doesn't watch ball that much asked me why that white guy gave me props lol. The thing was it was a Friday night game, we were shocked how those guys made it back to TO in time for a club ...

Since when does Weems bring any kind of defense to the court anyway?

Saw Eric Williams in Whole Foods. He's tall. Saw CB4 in some Jamaican head shop. He's taller. Saw BC eating ice cream at Coldstone on Bay. He's also tall, but not that tall.

oddly enough, I emailed Rob Babcock and he called me. How crazy is that. I was impressed, but like...hey, shouldn't you be running the team?

Seriously. I emailed him asking about how he got into the business, what path you have to take, blah blah...

I couldn't believe it when I heard the message on my phone...I laughed.

I once ended up at an autograph session with AP, Jason Kapono and Jose right before the start of the 07/08 season. Didn't even know it was happening until someone at Centre Sports told me. Had to buy a shirt. Too bad none of those autographs mean anything now.

My most recent connection was this summer in Las Vegas. Went to watch the Raps/Kings game. Got to shake hands with Ed Davis, and Amir Johnson. Went to Tryst the night before and actually saw Will Solomon in a booth with Sam Cassell :D

Walking around the Wynn casino I bumped into Jay Triano and BC. Got to shake BC's hand, but it got awkward really fast lol. Got to talk to Jay for a bit. Surprisingly candid when it came to Bosh and the trade to Charlotte which fell through.

A relative taught the daughters of one of the assistant coaches in the early years. I can't remember his name. Pretty weak, I know.

My father used to be the lead mechanic in charge of the Air Canada charters that take the Raps around... I've never met any of the players while seeing the plane (pre 9/11), but I've seen the crap they eat on those planes...

Oh - and no pic - I didn't have a digital camera from 1995-2001.

Nowadays, can't get me into the airport any longer.

As for meeting them, I've had brunch at the table next to Jose Calderon at Fran's (the day after the Magic beat us in the playoffs) and I shared a first-class row with BC (in December 2007 - when things were looking pretty good for the Raps) and he was pretty quick to put on his headphones and dive into his laptop, rather than talking to a fan.

Ever since then, I've been weary of anything Colangelo.

My guy to chat with via twitter is Eric Smith. Funny guy, because you can message him that "Bargs isn't getting better in his 5th year" and he'll reply, "I agree". No discussion. He knows what's up. He just can't get into it on the air or on the record. If any of you have met up with these guys in person (Jack, Eric, Leo, Sherm, Jones, etc.) you can confirm if these guys trash the Raps off the record.

Go on...

Basically I knew he was also there for the US Camp, so I asked him if Bosh was going to be there and what he would do if he saw him. Jay's reply was "I don't know really know how I would react if I saw him", shaking his head and just made that kind of face that he was really disappointed/really angry with what went down. Not earth shattering (I know) but just caught me off guard that he didn't go the political route and say something like "It was a matter of business, and he had to do what he had to do, etc" (which is what I was expecting to hear)

When I asked his thoughts about the Charlotte trade, he said it was "Bullsh*t" what MJ did, and that the Raps would be set if the trade went through. He was pretty upset about the whole thing.

Overall, he was really cool to talk to. Seemed very down to earth and very kind. I felt rude taking up so much of his time so I was about to leave, but surprisingly he just kept the conversation going. Just talked about the summer league, how the Raps were doing, and Vegas in general .
