I think the answer to that is Kemba Walker. It's been said many times that he was almost forced to score at UConn this season. Brandon Knight is more of a shooter and will need a lot more work to be the playmaker Kemba Walker already is in my opinion.

Add Kanter to the list. He's not guaranteed anything.

I picked Biyombo. No interest in seeing Knight learn how to pass or Kemba struggle with the outside shot the next 5 years. I don't want to wait two seasons to see Valanciunas. I don't like Vesely and Leonard at that spot. Thompson won't be better than Ed or Amir. Burks doesn't play defense. Donut is a headcase. I'd take Kanter if he slid or Biyombo.

Trade Bargs to LA for Artest and change.

Biyombo/Amir
Davis/Kleiza
Artest/Johnson
DeRozan/Barbosa
Bayless/Jose

Than I think its a no brainer if that's your criteria. Kemba is a better distributor and a better creator off the dribble. Knight is turnover prone bigtime

And with the 5th overall pick, the Toronto Raptors select...

Post#26 » by yummie » Wed May 18, 2011 11:58 pm

the 5th overall Mainly a swing and a miss pick. At 5, you can get some great talent. But in the past decade, that just isn’t what has happened. Dwyane was obviously a great choice, but after that, it’s really just Jason and Raymond. They’re joined by players like Jeff Green, Mike Miller, and Devin Harris. Those guys are pretty good, but wont carry a team.

Going back to 2000, the 5th overall picks include 1 NBA champion, 2 most improved, 3 all stars, and 2 busts. when 7 of the 10 are playing to their potential, their teams are tough to beat. years that end in 1 (draft years 61, 71, 81, 91 and 01) 3 of the 5 are solid role players and 2 are very capable. the 5th overall pick, does seem to have a good history, but if this draft is anything like the 2006 draft. we could have another Jonathon bender (raps pick in 99) or most recent Shelden Williams in 06

SOME of the best and most recent 5th overall picks.....no order

Yeah, I'd take a gamble at Walker too. imo. I think he is a high risk or a high reward type of player, and in this draft which happens to be mediocre we should really swing for the fences.

I'm really split b/w Walker and Knight.

I lean towards Kemba cuz you have a good idea what you're gunna get. It really won't surprise me if he's competing for ROY in a season that resembles good ol' Mighty Mouse. But of course there's always that fear that he peaks there and a guy like Knight develops into a great young PG like Rondo etc....

The problem is I don't really see that in BK right now and he reminds me too much of Lou Williams. I'd slighly favor Kemba cuz I feel confident he'll be a solid PG at least around a Ty Lawson level....Knight just hasn't convinced me he's anything more then a jumpshooter.

I've been looking at his highlights and I take it all with a grain of salt because of course they're highlights. But some of those moves in his highlights are only ones that a great scorer can make. Kemba seems to have than "it" factor that separates a really good player from a great player. Am I saying he'll be Michael Jordan? No. But I wouldn't ever doubt his limits.

Well I find it easier to list the guys I dont want.

A chair being thrown at the flatscreen if we draft;

Oompa Loompa
Vesely
Alec Burks
Donuts

Even though I'm not fond of some signficant aspects of their games, all things even, its easier finding quality smalls than quality bigs so von Bismark Be a Yoyo and Stickman Valanciunas wont result in chair tossing.

My preference remains Knight at 5 though. Hes going to be a great iso player. I think receiving offensive coaching from Jose while competing on d againt Bayless will be good for him next year while we still suck **** will do him wonders. He's also SUPER young as opposed to Kemba Walker who might be more NBA ready but we already have a much better idea of his ceiling.

I'm not sure I like the Chauncey Billups comparisson (stocky/strong vs long/lean, not great athlete vs good athlete, great decision maker vs questionable one). I prefer the Tyreke with a jumpshot ceiling :)

Let's go Kemba! I love his quicks and he's just clutch as hell. What scares me away from Knight is his high TO's, and I think Kemba can contribute right away.

I have a feeling we're taking one of the two PGs - Brandon Knight or Kemba Walker. I'd be more than fine with either one. If Knight is there, take him.

If he's taken before I have no problems with Kemba - he's the exact type of young leader/floor general that we need going forward. The biggest concern for me with Kemba is the fact that he's already stated his desire to join the Knicks one day - if he can fully commit himself to this franchise moving forward I'd pick him and wouldn't look back. People can say all they want about his size and his lack of passing ability, but the reality is this guy has the quickness and ball handling ability that would benefit further with the NBA rules that are in place. He's a winner. This team needs a guy like him - someone who'll do whatever he can to get a win. He's shown flashes of great passing and I think that'll be easier for him with more talented teammates. I think he'll be a top 4 rookie this season, and the kid has star power. He knows DeMar and Ed, so personally if there's any team in the lottery that he would prefer to go to, it would be Toronto.

That leaves Kanter/Val/Bis to the Cavs at 4 and Kemba/Val/Bis for us. Out of those 3 I'd lean Kemba, unless Val checks out as a potential force at the 5.

This is what I think too. But are they picking Kanter? I think they like to upgrade their SG/SF spot instead of their PF/C spot at the moment.

This is too tough to call, i guess i'd rather trust BC to make the right choice
