And TD, we're not trading Bayless or James Johnson this offseason. BC is pretty predictable about which pieces are immovable.
My point was that if we wanted to open up more capspace to aim for a free agent it could be done without having to move Barbosa/Bargnani/Jose. Like I showed, opening 2-3 mill capspace, is a difference of 10-15 million dollar in contracts.

Thanks for the breakdown! I think it is possible to do a sign and trade option to make those "10 mils" possible. If you trade Kleiza away, for example, you can take back around 11-12 mil.

Let's keep this thread realistic. We're stuck with Linas Kleiza.

But we're in a rebuilding stage. Why would we be looking to young prospects AND future 1st for a CHANCE at free agent? In free agency, nothing is guaranteed so it would be safer on our part to move contracts like Bargs, Barbosa & Bargnani in order to free up that space. I honestly can't see BC moving Bayless/JJ AND future 1st for capspace. Future firsts shouldn't even be talked about unless they're coming our way. And if we're sending them out as sweetners to get capspace in return, why use it to unload a contracts as small as Bayless/JJ when you have the likes of Bargs and Caldy on the books?

How come you have Julian Wright's qualifying offer at $8,574,171 and shamsports has it at $3,952,653?

Re: Toronto Raptors Offseason Cap Situation
I think we should trade Bargnani straight up for a 2nd rounder to a team with cap space. Then move Barbosa to a contender for a slightly smaller contract.
I realize the Bargnani trade would never happen, but It would be MY ideal situation. Just wash our hands of him.

How is a team like the Lakers able to spend $90 million on their roster, but the Raptors can't? How does the cap not limit the Lakers?

Simple, you're able to go over the cap/into lux-tax territory to re-sign your own FAs.

Re: Toronto Raptors Offseason Cap Situation
Keep in mind, if we're "stealing" a solid free agent, we'd probably have to give up at least one of Amir, Bargnani, James Johnson, or Bayless. No way we're getting a young free agent to a reasonable offer if we're not enticing the team away from matching any offer. The right sign and trade OR the right salary saving trade could free up enough room for a guy like Jordan - unless he really gets as huge a deal as some expect.

The $8,574,171 figure is the cap hold amount, which is 300 percent of Wright's 2010-11 salary

I trust you're laughing at Bryan Colangelo, as most of the league does.

If you have the TPE, you don't have cap space.

yeah you would have to choose between the 2 but that decision would come fairly quickly IMO because we have it till the 10th we could theoretically sign a RFA to an offer sheet and try and work out a S&T with that team for the 9 million or so. If we wanted say Chandler/Young/Green or someone like that.
