washington has an inexperienced point guard, a rookie shooting guard and young players throughout their roster yet they managed to get easy scores for their team at the end of the game. meanwhile the raptors struggled to get anything but contested shots even after timeouts.

Defense wasn't the issue and JV isn't exactly Lebron James.
Small ball lineup is great, eh? Lowry Derozan Anderson Gay and Amir Johnson wow! Why not move Gay to SF and abuse them and put Amir and Val up top and develop the young big man who will be (hopefully) playing for us for the next decade. Washington plays their rookies and don't adjust to our lineup, they force matchup problems themselves as do other teams. Coach Casey has NO plays, no offensive sets, no out-of-bounds plays, no out of timeout plays, and terrible rotation management. The fact that he hasn't been fired is beyond me. I could do a better job. Yes, I could.

Re: Dwayne Casey's Horrible Coaching
Dwayne "Pound The Rock" Casey has absolutely no ability to run even a decent offensive set. It's just iso ball or drive in to traffic hope for foul/last second kick out to someone who can't shoot 3's.
Those are the only two offensive "sets" he runs.
How is this guy a head coach?

I don't mind him as an assistant but he's just not head coach material.

Re: Dwayne Casey's Horrible Coaching
Dwayne Casey f*ckin sucks. Please tell me why we play small ball during crunch time against opposing bigs!? I have lost my patience with Casey this guy fricken loves Anderson like he's his own son. Yes, our play tonight was inexcusable but the major part of that is because CASEY HAS NO OFFENSIVE PLAYS!! Isn't this guy supposed to be a defensive guru?? Yet we're only playing decent defense at best. Why is this guy head coach again? How can we lobby for someone like Jeff Van Gundy or Stan Van Gundy? Any head coach is better than this POS coach who NEVER learns from his god damn mistakes and has no offense plays.

Ehem,
WASH
DefRtg: 100.0 (8th)
RAPS:
DefRtg: 104.6 (23th)
Wizards have the 8th best D in the league, we're 23rd , they beat us because they play better Defense, Raps should've learned their lesson from last time we played them, but no we just ignored and got spanked.

Re: Dwayne Casey's Horrible Coaching
He has sets, but it's not creative. It's the same horn sets and floppy set with the double-screen for Rudy and DeMar on the left side of the floor. He's basically implementing an offense that requires a high degree of instinct (read-and-react) with the players involved on the weakside and I don't think with the current roster aside from one or two players are really capable of making smart reads.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

Guys like Carlisle are true NBA head coaches... he retains guys like Casey to give him some ideas on the defence and he puts it all together. Casey on the other hand, he cant remain our head coach if we want to succeed. We need someone with proven playoff battle experience as a head coach. I personally think Sam Mitchell would do a better job overall. Hell, maybe even Triano.

Rick Carlisle is a genius for getting rid of this guy and getting Colangelo to take him.

I think Jonas is a -6, and may not be ready against Okafor and Nene (just speculation).
Lowry with 18 points is great, just want to see why he didn't get much assists tonight. Perhaps he didn't get the ball?
Bargnani not shooting the 3s well is troublesome. I think he is not fully recovered, but we need his shooting, particularly 3 point shooting.

Re: Dwayne Casey's Horrible Coaching
Casey's strengths:
- Great game plan to enter the game
- Great motivator
- Hardworker and passionate about his team
- Acccountability
- Defensive schemes and adaptation on the defensive end
Casey's weakness
- Rotations
- Preference for Veterans over our long term solution pieces (Ie LUcas + Anderson)
- Adaptations on the fly on the offensive end
- Offensive sets. He has a bunch but they're not simplified enough that the players can run it blindly with consistency. He tends to shy away from the inside out game and doesnt have much faith in Val and Amir's games which is disappointing to see.
- His inability to effectively use his big man. Seriously, they're being treated like Reggie evans out there on the floor. The reason why I liked JC coming into this season a lot was because he runs effective PnRs and his synchronization with Amir is invaluable. Val is also an excellent PnR guy. How many times have we ran it? like 3 times per game since the Gay trade?
Tonight, every time we ran the PnR with one of Amir/Val and Lowry/Gay, something always good happened. we drew fouls, we had easy dunks, we had good looks, why does Casey shy away from what's successful.
- too much Isos Gay and Demar can create but consistently giving them the ball and being told "create for us" is not a good option.
Ever since we've acquired Gay we're straying more and more away from what made us scrappy and what made us have that original 5 game win streak which was crisp ball movement, trusting each other, making the extra pass and setting up for others. Right now...plays are..
Gay Iso, Demar Iso, Anderson Iso,
As a opponent's coach, the way to beat the Raptors is basically what Washington and Memphis did.
Pack the paint, dare us to beat them from the perimeter.
Swarm defense when we penetrate because there's rare kick outs, and if it does happen opponents are willing to take that chance/gamble (note how many open shots we had on the extra ball movement)

triano had to play caledron and bargs; casey doesnt have to. whats casey's excuse especially since your calling card is defense.

but he's not a 3pt shooter....the fact that we're parking him at the 3pt line is the first thing that's wrong with the picture because you wont get success with him from where he stands. Bargnani from what I witnessed from the last few games is a mind boggling guy. You see his ability to take his defender off the dribble when he's paired up with immobile bulky bigs and his post game against smaller/skinner bigs. That midrange jumper should be part of his game but his priorities should be taking high percentage shots using post ups and driving with his unique make up. What does he do? He still settles for jumpers even if they're not falling and when he does get the ball in the post, he immediately squares up, and rather than backing his man down, he either
a) shoots it over him from that 10 -12 foot
b) takes the step back jumper.
He has to not shy away from contact.

Re: Dwayne Casey's Horrible Coaching
no one can hit shots apart from DD and Lowry..hence the low number of assists

Re: Dwayne Casey's Horrible Coaching
Casey really reminds me a lot like Kevin Oneil...good Defense, horrible offense...we really need an x and o kind of coach that can coach both offense and defense respectably and have an assistant as a players coach and we should be fine....Stan Van Gundy anyone?
