I thought that was kind of weird, kind of high schoolish and cowardly. If they call and get that response that they were afraid of then on to the next guy. Fact is Kyle was a bit of a late bloomer, both maturity wise and his rise to being an all star. I guess, even up to this point, Kyle still has a bit of a reputation. Maybe, now that is finially behind him.

I think it's because lets say they've had guys like Stef Currry, or Chris Paul or someone else who's been with USA basketball, or even if they had other guys higher on their wish list. They don't want to burn bridges maybe, with these guys by calling to see if their interested and then not actually ending up having a spot for them. So they get someone they know can get the word out. I think Jay Wright had been involved with the USA basketball program anyway.

It's a delicate game. Most of their work is this recruitment process so they want to do their best not to have it circling amongst players that they are stringing people along.

The actual coaching is barely anything aside from people management.

I understand exactly what they were saying. I am just of the thought that you call the guy when the time is right and you be honest with him about where he is on depth chart and ask if he would be willing to play. I get that it was easier the way they did it though. Less hassle I suppose, just kind of weak in my opinion.

Also, agree with your people management piece, because from an X's and O's and almost nepotism type basis, I thought coach K was God awful, but I also know from what I see with Duke that he is a great coach. But it was the fact to me, that you have Coach K and Thibs, two great defensive coaches and you didn't do a whole lot to fix it with your starters; that was interesting. People management over pure basketball strategy at its finest, especially with Melo and Kyrie, in which it would've definitely helped the team to have Kyle and Paul George out more. One of those two needed to be in the starting lineup for all its defensive pitfalls with the starting group and I think it was too obvious for them not to notice.
