I gotta say, as a dad I felt I had to stock up and make sure my family was good just in case this virus takes me out for a couple weeks.

I can't send my 8 year old girl shopping if I am quarantined.

Besides, Costco in mississauga had a full store minus water with no line ups this weekend. I even went around lunchtime. It was the easiest shopping I've ever had to do.

The virus is serious enough that we have to take action (social distancing, testing, etc) but the media response is causing escalating amounts of fear which in turn is making the lemmings hoard like its the apocalypse. This isn't the apocalypse.

As Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore have demonstrated, this virus can be contained by just staying calm, enforcing some preventative measures and waiting this out. If the masses continue to panic, this may snowball into something far worse than it needs to be. The supply chain is still in tact, essential goods and services will continue to be produced and available for all as long as we dont create an artificial surge in demand in excess of our actual needs.

This next statement may make me look stupid in time but I think when all is said and done, more people worldwide will die in car accidents this year (average of about 1.25 million every year) than from the corona virus.

The idiotic media has a lot to blame for this. They keep reporting that all the shelves are empty and people will see that and start to panic and start hoarding supplies. Also, having all these people bunched up together waiting in lines is spreading the virus and making the situation even worse.

If people just bought a reasonable amount of supplies (~2 weeks worth), then there would be enough to go around for everyone. But nope, people need to be idiots and selfish.

London drugs came up clutch for me just now. They had skids of of toilet paper. I was in complete shock as I couldn't find it anywhere today. Was able to pick up a pack of 24 roll super soft and ultra absorbent Cottonelle bathroom tissue. Label on the package says 24 double roll pack = 48 rolls. Wanted to grab a smaller pack but this was all they had. I'm guessing this will last me a good 2 years or more. Crisis averted. No lineup too.

My local Food Basics and Shoppers were almost completely empty when I went this weekend. I needed some toilet paper as I only have a few rolls left, but there obviously wasn't any left so I got kleenex boxes instead. Amazon says they are getting new TP shipments soon so I should get my order by the 24th (I ordered 2 packs, instead of 20 like most people). It costs 3x as much as from the grocery store, but I can't be **** to go back into those crowds again. And since I don't have a car, it's a 30 minute walk to the store every time to check if they've restocked.

Stores really need to start limiting items per customer. Nobody needs more than 2 packs of toilet paper, one bag of rice/flour, etc. You don't need 24 months' worth of supplies.

I see all these clothing stores trying to get a piece of the cake with big online sales now that nobody is going to the malls. That’s actually a bad sign that this thing is going to be around for a while.

Seems like most people are preparing for this to last at least multiple months.

We won't be getting a vaccine for a very long time either.

Haven't been to Costco or No frills in 4 days. It was already huge lineups when I did go. I'm just gonna order some protein bars off amazon now.

Went to both Walmart and No Frills today in Mississauga. Walmart was short bread and TP but otherwise normal, self-checkout line was about 10 minutes. No Frills was busy for a weekday afternoon but was nearly fully stocked and every checkout lane was open, no line.

If you're stocking up essentials because you want to limit your trips to the grocery store that's one thing, but people hoarding for the apocalypse are just crazy.

Same for me as I was down to a few rolls left and never really thought much about it until I went to do shopping today and every single store I went to had entire shelves empty. Almost all the stores here had a sign up limiting to 2 packs per person but it still didn't help.

I didn't even steal one single roll of toilet paper from my AirBNB last night, and it was well stocked. #heroofthepeople

Give it a few more days. Stores will re-up and all the people that had their share likely wont do it again. Well, they better friggin not...anyways, I’m not hoarding nothing. Just go out every morning for my usual drive through coffee and hit up shoppers/rexall/sobeys until it calms down and I have what I need. BTW baby wipes is better then toilet paper man oh man grabbed ONE pack of that to hold me over. Didn’t hoard it like an ass.

You can't flush a wipe though, so if you like keeping that around the house until garbage day then I'd agree.

It's stupid not to stock up. A real man will spend at least a few hundred dollars to protect his family. My worst case scenario is I'm down a grand or so while others worst case scenario is hunger/death. I'm also prepped for any social unrest. IMO, I'd rather be prepped to ensure the survival of my family even if the possibility were low for it to come to that.

You might be right. But that's why all these extreme measures are taken NOW so that we don't hit those numbers. We don't wait until we hit 1.25M deaths and than react seriously to the situation.

Hydroponic stores usually carry disposable gloves and sometimes masks in bulk. Also usually have bulk isopropyl alcohol in 5 gallon jugs. Just a heads up for my fellow raptor fans.

I can live with the super paranoid folks hoarding it, they're just scared because it's just in their nature, they can't help it. But the people hoarding it just to flip things for profit is just disgusting.

I feel you on the flushable wipes though lol, they're expensive but they feel nice

And for people freaking out, I checked online this morning, and even though toilet paper is still selling like crazy, flushable wipes and paper towels are still available in multiple stores. I can't believe people are risking getting the virus in these crowded Costcos just to get some damn toilet paper. It defeats the whole purpose in stocking up if you end up getting infected and get your family infected too.

"Well I'm infected, but at least my ass will be pampered with toiler paper instead of these idiots buying paper towels and flushable wipes"
