I was shouting will Riley from the jump in the draft thread. 31pts let's go. Get him on the Raptors

Some great first games, good to see.

And I know we're mostly about the men's game here, but Canada has some great prospects on the women's side too. One of them, Syla Swords, also had a fantastic debut at Michigan with 27 points and 12 rebounds to almost knock off the #1 team in the country in South Carolina.

Can't ask for much better of an NCAA opening night from a Canadian perspective.

I know it's a massive time commitment, so I hope he doesn't take this as any kind of pressure, but I sure am missing Hair's usual NCAA post right now.

With the transfer portal, I'm so confused on where all the Canadians are playing this year. It seems most of them have switched teams. Michael Nwoko, Vasean Allette, Bubu Benjamin and a bunch of others have.

He didnt do it this year. partially what you mention above and partially because there isnt much high level talent to write about.

He did a shorter X thread on it.

Thanks. I hadn't seen that (not really on X very often).

But yes, you're right, it's definitely a down year for Canadian prospects in the NCAA. I guess we'll have to wait and see how things go over the next few years. There are at least a few bright spots on the horizon (Isaiah Hamilton, Paul Osaruyi, Miles Sadler, Jordan Charles) but it's still a bit early to tell how those guys will pan out.

Beckford and the other Canadians aren't getting minutes on South Florida, even in blowout wins.

Kind of surprising.

He transfered (like seemingly everyone else in the NCAA) and is now in Florida, playing in an interesting backcourt with Boogie Fland. He's probably our best bet at having a Canadian draft pick this year.

Definitely surprising. I wasn't expecting him to be a star right away, but Beckford was the freshman I was most confident would get decent minutes and put up some numbers.
