I always thought Nurse and then Jordi, being NBA coaches, had a lure for our Canadian NBA players. Hopefully Herbert can still get guys to commit

This is my biggest concern as well. How familiar are the top Canadian players with him? I get his success in Europe and FIBA, which is all great, but our top guys play in the NBA now. I hope he is able to recruit the top players at the same level as we've recently been getting.

Yeah for sure, but the players recruit players. As long as we have Shai on the team we’re gonna have players show up.
I believe in Masai.

Yes to this as well. He’s a solid human and well liked, plus he’s also Canadian. Why not both? Jama and Gordie.

Yah was hoping he'd get it, but now that Gordie was signed, I'd like Jama to at least be on the staff. Has a good reputation with NBA players, which would help with recruiting.

Yeah agreed for sure! Didn’t realize it was formalized. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Misread things earlier.

Most hockey sounding name I've ever heard so seems like a good choice to represent Canada

2025 AmeriCup is coming up in August. The tournament doesn't necessarily mean a lot, so it's hard to say how many of the NBA guys will show up. It would be good if we could get at least a few of them to make a good showing and keep our FIBA ranking high, which would hopefully help put us in a better pool in the next World Cup in 2027.

Even if we don't get the SGA, Barrett, and Brooks types, it would be good to try to get young players like Mathurin, Sharpe, and Edey in the fold and see how they'd fit in with international play. Edey obviously was on the last World Cup team, but was still a college junior and barely got any playing time.

By qualifying for the AmeriCup (which we did only through a 3-way tiebreaker because the team lost their last two games), they automatically are in the World Cup qualifiers, so it's a first step to the big tournaments in a couple of years.

August is good because doesn't interfere with SL.

Maybe Banton can get a run, along with the three you mentioned and Nembhard

And maybe Leonard Miller. He hasn't been getting any playing time with the Wolves, but killed it in the G-League.

I would think the guys who have been leading the team in the qualifiers would still be on the AmeriCup team - players like Trae Bell-Haynes and Mifondu Kabengele, but if they could get 4-6 of the NBA guys as well I'd be happy.
