Yeah, Dick has done nothing in his career to suggest it is a "down stretch" or whatever.

If IQ is 0-7 from 3, I still want him taking that 8th 3. Dick... not so much.

As bad as iq has been from 3 over the last stretch, he’s still shooting around the same percentage as dicks best year with us, which sadly was his rookie season… that tells you a lot about iqs talent level and why he deserves more leeway… the issues with iq stem from the fact that thhey keep trying to make him this tradtitional pg. he’s not. And on an organization that has been consistently starved for shooting, it makes no sense to get rid of one of its only consistent shooting threats. They just need to tell him to be who he is, which is a scorer… hunt your shots, come off screens and jack em up, stop over dribbling like you’re Steve Nash…

You saw tonight, curry wasn’t dribbling the ball as nauseum trying to create offense… the man dribbles with a purpose, he’s trying to score. And when he has nothing, he passes out, relocates, and jacks it up when he gets an inch of room… iq should be used very similarly. Stop using him like he’s supposed to be Jamal shead.

Curry is also the GOAT off ball player. If it was easy as “be used like Curry” there would be more than 1 curry.

No one is ever gonna be curry… that doesn’t mean that a guy can’t play a similar style… that’s like saying we shouldn’t keep force feeding Ingram iso mid range shots because there’s only one Michael Jordan…

The issue with our guards is that they aren't guards. They are wings.

We need guys who have developed or developable handles. Walter and Hepburn are the only ones I see who have that skill. Then we need burst and ability to get into the lane.

I think Dick is the first player we need to get off. Then Agbaji. Neither have true wing size and skills. Even if the shooting magically comes back I don't have much faith there.

Just watched the second half recording now. Darko actually made a good change how they defended Curry in the late 4th. Saved the game, of course it required Scottie's effort but their overall D on Curry was excellent.

the 25 years and younger crew:

is shead better this year than last? my answer is yes.
is jakobe better this year than last? my answer is yes.
is gradey better this year than last? my answer is no.
is mogbo better this year than last? my answer is tbd - he played last year mostly because if tanking/injuries.

is scottie better this year than last? my answer is yes.
is rj better this year than last? my answer is yes.

cmb - rookie so can't track it until a year or two down the road but he's a much better 3 point shooter than expected.

Under Nick Nurse: Two players - Siakam and Maxey - won Most Improved Player; Scottie became Rookie of the Year; and both FVV & Powell were developed under Nurse and were integral parts of our Championship team.

His development coaching (not to mention overall coaching) resume has also been better than Darko.

i'm not sure what this means. it was an entirely different set of circumstances. the team just started winning overnight in 13/14 - then all the rookies drafted after that were not relied upon and could develop at their own pace and/or be enhancements to the vets. fred + pascal + yak + norm + delon all spent alot of time at the 905. norm took over 3 years to break out and he was an older rookie. there was no pressure or directive to play them heavy minutes because the team was winning.

darko's basically had to rebuild from midway through his 1st season. so we played a ton of young guys a ton of minutes right away. gradey is in his 3rd season but the other guys, jakobe, shead, mogbo are only on their 2nd years and cmb is a rookie.

so i'm not sure about who developed who better, especially with the benefit of hindsight. we won't really know how these guys develop for a few more years.

Well yes, and no. He kept young players accountable. DeRozan could empty the clip.

Maybe but that doesn’t mean Darko is bad at player development. Look at the improvement from guys like RJ and Scottie and Shead. Look at our change in record over the last couple of seasons with mostly the same players. Some of that is health and addition of Ingram but a lot of it is guys getting better and learning how to play together within a system that encourages ball and player movement.

I’m not sure why people keep saying Scottie developed. He’s been the same player for essentially 3 years.

You guys know that head coaches aren't really the ones doing the "development"?

Sure, a head coach has input, but player development is an organizational philosophy. There are dozens of people involved in implementing and evolving the framework.

This is objectively false but even if you wanted to amend and say he’s been the same player since two years ago when he made all star that was Darko’s first year as coach so you’d still have to give him some credit for that leap in play given it happened in a new system which afforded Scottie more opportunities to create with the ball in his hands.

I would say yes to 3. Poeltl seems like a near finished product though.

Since it’s “objectively” false give me specifics on what he has improved on. His numbers have been identical for the past 3 years, and his efficiency was actually worse last year than it was the previous years. And that was in a tanking year when he was given the greenlight to do whatever he wanted.

He still plays the same way, and he hasn’t developed as a scorer at all.

His first year under Darko Barnes saw a nearly 5 point jump in ppg while improving his TS% and made an all star game. Last year was tanking year with terrible roster and they were clearly experimenting with certain skills with no focus on winning. This year Scottie is shooting a career high in 3pt%, TS%, is having his best defensive season.
