AD is a no.

It would come down the Sabas & Trae.

I like the length of Sabonis contract. Fits our timeline. Its also managable. C position would be locked up. He would be one of the best C's we have had & I think he would be a fan fave. Kind of a Marc Gasol type.

I like.the Trae contract as well. Could give him a trial run & if it looks like it is not working, trade him as an expiring. Free up some money.

It really depends on what the Raps are giving up & getting in return.

Both Trae & Sabonis are similar options (offensive players with sus defense) but different positions.

Trae contract gives flexibility. Sabonis gives certainty.

This really comes down to Darko & how he envisions each of them fitting into his system.

I think it more likely if we get Trae Young, they probably look to do an extension right away similar to Ingram than try him out and let him potentially leave for nothing. And potential numbers in that situation kinda scares me knowing this team likes to overpay, which is half of why I want nothing to do with Young. The other half being he just sucks at playing winning basketball due to his lack of defense (one of the worst) and horrid shot selection.

That would be really stupid. They just made that mistake.

Trae is a risk. You don't offer an extension until you see that it is a good fit. At least try him out for the rest of the season before making financial decisions.

I can't imagine being saddled with 50 million for 4 years before deciding if it is worth it. I don't think Bobby or Rogers would do it.......but what do I know.

But think about it. Getting Trae Young probably means giving up one of our current core players and probably future pick or two of consequence. You think they'd make that kind of commitment for what would be 1 and half-year rental? As much as some here would like to believe Raptors could do that just to get out of some of the "bad" contracts like Quickley or Poeltl, WTH are they gonna do with cap space anyhow? That's pretty much worthless to a team like ours that's not a free agent destination. And I imagine they'd be capped out with or without Trae Young in the fold so I imagine, they'd have some kind of understanding on a contract extension, which is why a guy like Young (or AD) would be more willing to come here. And the fact that our FO are suckers for overpaying in these situations is what scares me.

Imagine a lineup of

Scottie - PG
Ingram - SG
Sandro - SF
Davis - PF
CMB - C

Let the smallest guy on the floor be the C. Make the opposing team "want" to attack the inside, and they'll get swarmed. By the PG and PF.

SG and SF can take more chances at pressuring, because of the PG and PF as a second line.

Try a lineup with Shed or ja'kobe, they can hide amongst the trees, and catch guys off guard, on both sides of the floor.

Raps won a chip by taking a chance on an injury risk. As a non-destination franchise with bad lottery luck (plus losing the coin flips on the Pacers pick that resulted in JKB), it's the only way we can win.

But not with RJ going the other way. Jak + IQ straight up for AD does work. It takes us further into the tax, but with Rogers in charge spending money doesn't seem to be a problem any more. If a first is required, then make it lottery protected for the next three seasons, turning to two seconds if unused.

The big difference is that the championship team was deep enough where they could easily handle a Leonard injury. This team would be in pretty big trouble considering who they give up and Davis out. Protection on picks is a must.

I would love to see Davis on this team though. I badly want a dominant big over everything else for the Raptors.

I love Trae Young, one of my favourites to watch from a neutral fan prospective. But I don't want him unless I have AD or Wemby to anchor a defense.

I don't want AD. He's never healthy and I don't think he solves our issues offensively. But I'll take him in order to get off IQ and Take.

This is the most interesting trade of the 3. If we could squeeze some guard talent along with Sabonis AND trade Jak and IQ I could live with it. Whether Malik Monk or Clifford I think we could bolster Darkos style.

AD is the best talent out of the 3.

Trae is the worst defensive player of the 3.

AD if healthy no brainer

I'd take AD on one leg than the other 2. But preferably none of the above

With Trae they are probably around where they are now but would be able to withstand and Ingram injury better and have better potential in the playoffs.

Sabonis will probably just keep this team similar to what they are now

Disagree. As I said in another thread - we are amazing with Jak and his 25 min per game. Imagine Sabonis for 32 min per game. Unlike Jak, Sabonis can play some PF too.

I’d really like to see him here because his passing/screening/b2b game is gonna play up bigtime with our cutters. He’s also in nobody’s way.

I vote Sabonis. AD is the much better player so wouldn’t be averse to him - but we better be confident he’ll actually play for us and stay with us. I have way more confidence in Sabonis doing that than AD. Plus Sabonis is far more available than AD.

If I could get Trae for CJ McCallum & Corey Kispert, I would do it.

A load managed AD that's played sparingly might be okay. But we would have a huge weakness at PG.

Where's the option for None of the above.

If I had to, I still wouldn't do it.

We all know about Ed Rogers, he could tell Bobby that he wants the raptors to contend fast. To match blue jays success, etc.

You trade for need, but without mortgaging the future.

Look at the past few seasons. We lacked a scoring threat. We went out and got BI and boom it unlocked a new offensive dimension in our team.

Stronger interior rebounding will do the same. Davis obviously the better two way player compared to Sabonis, but he will cost more and the health is a big consideration. If Davis can play 65 games a season plus playoffs for the next 3-4 years you trade for him hands down. But if it is like 50 games and might miss some playoffs you take a historical Ironman like Sabonis.

We are undersized on the front court side. So that is where we need to beef up. We also need more consistent outside shooting but that is available in the league and can be added via lesser pieces. Trading with a Dallas or a Sacramento they have 3 pt shooters that can be acquired cheap. Monk is someone that comes to mind

NONE. But if I must, it'd probably be AD from a pure talent perspective. But he's never healthy, and I don't want to pay him to sit. Sabonis is interesting, but doesn't really provide what we need.

Honestly, I'd rather add cheap depth for the bench this season. We're in need of consistency from the bench in the worst way. Then draft BPA (hopefully a Big).

Options
Nick Richards
Gafford/Washington
Drew Eubanks
Robert Williams III
Santi Aldama
Goga Bitaze

I have no clue if any are available, but I'd rather go this route than all in on AD or Sabonis.
