Everyone screws up but the requirement is to do more good than bad. Since 2020, its been pretty pathetic in Raptors land.
The way this season finishes will define if Bobby gets fired or not. Raptors are doing OK right now but are 2 games away from being 8th and joining the NBA's purgatory with Atlanta/Chicago/Miami.
My opinion, Bobby needs to make an impactful move at the deadline. If he cant and we're stuck with IQ/Poeltl, he can start looking for a new job then.

So if Yak had another strong season this year, theoretically he could have probably got close to $30M starting next season in FA. The extension was partly to get Yak to lock in at the $19.5M for next season, and then give him additional years and money on the back end.
If they knew this was going to be the situation with Yak, that extension is probably not offered.
No team is giving him $30 million if he was healthy. Look at Vucevic trying. Probably most teams could only offer the MLE and those that have the cap space wouldn't blow it on Poeltl. At most a team would offer $25 million, even then I think $20 million gets it done.
Myles Turner got 4 years $108 million. After that, Santi Aldama re-signed for $17.5 million per season. I would much rather have Luke Kornet at the MLE than Poeltl at over $20 million. I'd rather have Luke Kornet at Poeltl's salary than Poeltl.
Yeah it was a reactionary extension which he should have waited on to see the market Yak would of had than rush it and outbid himself....Yak was putting up numbers on a tanking team last year....I mean its not like the guy was putting up numbers leading us and helping us win in a playoff series....
Yak prolly gets 17-19M per year and if we waited and his back is cooked like it is this year we prolly just use him as an expiring contract in trades where he would be much more valuable as a salary dump to teams.

I think that will be reality because i really don't think teams want to take back the salary on these guys....Yak is here as i don't think anyone wants him with a bad back....IQ we can hope with draft pick attached we can at least get off him but even that might be a challenge.

Oh look, the post frequency by a couple of posters has increased dramatically today. Must be just a coincidence that the Raps lost 2 in a row.

Why wouldn’t Ed have done this right after he fired Masai?
Ownership got rid of Masai due to money. If they actually cared about performance they would have canned everyone. Instead they kept the guys who were integral in us being one of the worst run teams in the league over the last 3-4 years.
Masai wasn’t fired to try and improve the team. He was fired over money. Until proven otherwise that should be concerning to all Raptors fans.

Without the persisting injury, Poeltl''s contract is fair. IQ on the other hand...

I think Bobby is just the placeholder till they find the guy they actually wanna hire long term.

Hopefully Poeltl's back isn't cooked but it's not looking promising at least for this season. I doubt the FO would have given him the extension if they knew that his back would be like this.
However, I do criticize them for not waiting until later into the season to potentially extend him. If I'm not mistaken, since Jak had a player option for next year, we had up until end of June 2026 to extend him (unlike RJ).

This is far from the truth. There were many posters who were firmly against the contract to begin with.

What was the freaking rush to extend is the biggest question I have? There was mostly downside to doing this, esp with a 30 year old, it's not like he had a ton of room for improvement, where that early extension is bet on said improvement (i.e. the IQ contract).

This is the general pattern of online discussions and engagement. Why not criticize ALL online activity then? Content creators often mention that negative topics get more attention than positive stories. Ever heard of "if it bleeds, it leads"? That goes back decades.

I think Bobby’s feeling the heat for sure and he’s probably going to try and make a big splash for a big name to save his job which will screw us over in the long run. Well not even long run I think it will blow up in our faces immediately if it’s Anthony Davis/Ja Morant.

yeah this is confusing. The 19.5 million extension was a steal, great deal done. The recent extension was a head scratcher...

I'm looking for management that can find high end talent, build positive culture and get the team to improve. They've done a good, not great job in recent years. I am really impressed with CMB. That was a home run pick. The BI acquisition is also a homerun. Scottie was definitely a homerun as well. Also had some nice singles in Shead, Battle, etc. Still lots of work to do but feels like we are on the right track. I don't expect every move to be great. IQ is looking like a C atm. Jak extension also about a C. Neither are disastrous, but definitely not looking good. Nothing they've done has been truly terrible. Not perfect, but no FO is. They've definitely earned at least another season or two.

If that's true (which I don't necessarily believe) it inspires very little confidence in this franchise. Why give him an extension last off-season if he's a stop gap?
Why give a lame duck GM the chance to run your team into the ground? That's a sign of bad ownership.

Was there some event where this happened that I missed, where it got crazy worse, because from what I read it is wasn’t a surprise, it had been an issue last year and they gave many different reasons for why he didn’t really even take part in preseason. His backs been the sam all season I believe. Lots of times this season where he’s played but was so limited he wasn’t himself and was hurting us. This is why I’m questioning the decision so much. It’d be one thing if I can recall an event or the game after we signed the guy where he got hurt. Thats just the way it goes, but just like I’d question the gm who takes Jak’s deal, if it’s not a new injury then what kind of risk assessment was done to ensure you were left holding the bag?

Bobby is not getting fired a year after being the main decision maker.

We have several non shooters in a league where it's the most valued skillset. Bobby hasn't been good at all. We should have fired him with Masai. He's a side kick he isn't a main character. The next move he'll make will be bad, because he was set up that way. He's gonna be the fall guy, just watch.

It’s been the whole season, from what I understand.
