Derrick Williams is playing well btw

Very well. I like that he's taken 9 shots already. Shows that he wants to be the man in this tourney. He knows how to use his size advantage well but I'd like to see him score in a variety of ways. He wont be able to overpower everyone at the next level. The second round match-up against Tristan Thompson shoud be a good one. If he shows the skills to play the 3 then sign me up if he's the BPA when we pick. Unfortunately Givony from DX shares my opinion on his position in the NBA.

Chad Ford says Derrick Williams is a 3 in NBA? Thoughts?

Jonathan Givony: IMO he's a 4 on Def. Best mismatch potential Off at 4 as well.

I would not be at all surprised to see Sullinger drop to 9 or 10.

Can't the mod do something with March Madness posts go to the other thread?

These comments have nothing to do with the draft:

Or should I start another thread regarding our draft? It is like out of control, same for the PG thread, people post things not related to the Raptors game but the Knicks game?

Double Helix wrote:I'm trying to think of some historical precedent for a player without a freakish build/athleticism combination or a ton of polish in the post going top 5 and struggling. Most C prospects taken top 5 have more polish than he does or elite size/athleticism that some GMS just couldn't resist Dwight Howard, Hasheem Thabeet, Demarcus Cousins, etc all come to mind for various reasons. Polished Cs that weren't super old like Bogut, Okafor, Ming all went high because they still had room to grow and we're already "can't miss."

But guys that don't seem to have that freakish size/build/athleticism or polish tend to drop past 10 looking at recent draft history. Even a guy like Joakim Noah, who scouts had a lot more time with, and who was heralded after winning the NCAA championship and then choosing to stay for another year... still dropped to 9th. Aldrich dropped to 11th. Brook Lopez dropped to 10th. Jason Thompson was taken 12th. Robin Lopez was taken 16th. Anthony Randolph was taken 14th. Andris Biedrins was taken 11th.

And there have been plenty others like that as well. There's a lot to like about Valancianus but he and Kanter both seem like the kind of players that should be taken in the 8-13 range rather than top 5. I know this draft isn't great but I think it's better than having to take a flyer on either of those guys with a top 5 pick.

K. Irving
D. Williams/Sullinger
H. Barnes/P. Jones

I think that's going to eventually become the consensus top 5. Irving is shaping up to be the clear-cut #1. The team picking 2nd will think long and hard between all 4 of the fab freshmen and a combination of some big tournament performances as well as the individual workouts will determine more than anything we can say right now but I just don't see Valancianus or Kanter coming in and wowing more in a private workout than any of those 5 names.

I think you explained why those two WILL be taken in the 8-13 range rather than why they SHOULD be taken in the 8-13 range. I think in Valanciunas' case, he does have freakish build and good athleticism (minus vertical leap and strength which can easily be addressed). He's only 18 y/o, and a lot of 18 y/o 7 footers are skinny. It could also be argued that Barnes and Jones' games are just as unpolished as Jonas'. We know "big men take longer time to develop" too.

Kyrie Irving has nothing to do with the draft. Stop derailing this thread!

Irving has to do with the draft, but your comment has nothing contributed to the draft itself. You add ZERO value to the thread.

Unless you are saying these comments can affect our draft decision:

Barkley is questioning why Irving decided to return. Charles thinks Kyrie is limping & is out of shape, which could lead to another injury. Duke doesn't need him but I can't complain. As much as I want Irving to be a Raptor I hope he struggles a bit in the tournament to make scouts think.

I think Charles will change his view on him when Irving scores double double next game

Charles loves him as a prospect but doesn't see the practicality of him playing tournament games if he isn't ready.

Chris Singleton is expected to play a bit for FSU today. He could be a guy worth buying a pick for if he drops.

What Charles says is very logical and right on point but for Irving's perspective, he really wants to help his team and wants to play in the tourney and that really shows his desire his passion and his character ...this is the type of guy that we desperately need on our team. Long live the Irving!!

Yeah, he's someone I've talked about liking before, but unfortunately, he'd be a bit redundant with JJ now here.

Arizona minus Derrick Williams blows.
Can't even feed the ball to the player who's arguably the best player in the nation
