If he's available at 8, I can't see BC passing on him.

I...I just can't quit the dream of PJ3. Him or Lillard at 8.

I'm being drawn into this bandwagon. The thing that concerned me is the motor, but at 8 you gotta take the best talent, and the size and length on the wing could be great.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Perry Jones
I am supper intrigued about the possibility of having that much size in the frontcourt.
Perry is a good rebounder and if JV is a good rebounder they wre a great pairing to sadwich around bargs.
That leaves one heck of a long starting frontcourt.
The pg and sg spots would need some serious looking at though, I think Demar would be ok playing beside Perry on the wing, but Jose is definately the wrong pg for the froncourt.

I am no more than breakfast intrigued myself, and I am concerned about him playing in Canada with his Mom's health situation. She's in Texas, needs a heart transplant, and I don't think it's great idea to put him in the franchise that is furthest in distance from her. His mind is going to wander a lot, and when he has the chance, he's a good bet to migrate back to the states.

Love how just a month ago everyone was debating with me that he's too slow to play SF and now Ford confirms what I've been saying. I still don't like that he has no heart but I knew he was more than adequete to play the position; the example I used was if an aging Marion can then so can Perry...

You can't be be picky with the 8th pick, if the team feels than Jones is the best pick at 8 than we have to take him regardless. But I really think GS will end up picking him.

After living through Anthony Randolph (who is the exact player GMs fear Perry becomes); I actually highly doubt it.
If Barnes is there I bet they take him since it's a much safer bet. If not I think they will draft Sully since Bogut's health can't be relied on and then they can move Lee over to C in the interim.

She would not be eligible for OHIP, and I can't say whether this is a better place than Texas for healthcare. Baylor, if I recall, has one of the best hospitals in Texas.
My point is that this kid is a flight risk. We've had flight risks before. You can feel when a young player is willing to be tethered to a new market. Chris Bosh's tether was always pretty thin, it took him a couple of years to get acclimatized, and then other issues started turning his head. This is a draft rich in kids from New York and California who seem to adapt well here, maybe because we're big and cosmopolitan. I'm always a bit dubious about whether a small town kid from the south can adapt to Toronto. I still feel Ed Davis is out of his personal comfort zone here.
In assessing a player, you have to understand his comfort zone and whether you're asking him to step outside it by playing here. If you are, he's an elevated risk to move on when he can.
That's my template. I haven't interviewed Jones personally, so I can't say if he can extend his comfort zone, but he'd have to be way better at #8 than guys like Waiters and Harkless who come out of big cities like Toronto. Harkless is from New York, Waiters is from Philadelphia via Syracuse. Damian Lillard is from Oakland. These guys don't sound like they'd feel out of place in Toronto.

Since when was Perry Jones III a good rebounder?
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

he's not a great rebounder but he put up a respectable 7.7 rpg. Positionally (if he plays the 3 as he states he wants to) that is above average for an SF. He's got the length to do it, the instincts aren't perfect but it can be worked on with the tools he has.

All of the recent Perry Jones talk is typical of the draft process. He's the same guy we've been watching all season.

I wouldn't be mad if we drafted PJ3, but I'd still prefer Lamb at this point. Players like Jones, Anthony Randolph etc... are all over the league and are not terribly difficult to acquire. Quality shooting guards, however, are in short supply. Lamb would be the better asset if we were ever looking to shake things up and make a deal.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Perry Jones
If he had terrible workouts PJ3 would obviously drop, but I'm not sure how much having great workouts can boost his stock. Although if he showcases legit skills to play the 3 that will only help him.
You can't exactly judge whether a guy has a great motor and heart from workouts especially when he knows that is the knock on him. You would have to be historically dumb to half ass workouts when you know people are questioning your motor.
That being said nothing has really changed. He could be a giant bust and I wouldn't be shocked and he could be the best player out of this draft class and I wouldn't be shocked. If he keeps knocking it out of the park in workouts it will be a lot easier to take that risk especially when it's mid to late lottery.

Interesting read:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--draft ... GgslC8vLYF
That Jones didn't show up for the Bears on a nightly basis, the main reason why he is projected as a top-10 pick and not top overall.
"I don't like that guy. I don't. I don't," Jones told Yahoo! Sports after a workout at Peak Performance Project here this week. "That guy from last season didn't do too well. He didn't do too well at all. I feel like I got a lot to prove. I got a lot of expectations. I want to be successful.
"I want to be an All-Star at the end of the day. Not just be a player who plays a couple of years or a could've been, should've been. I want to be an All-Star."
"He was impressive with his athletic abilities," one GM said. "It's obvious he will have more success as a wing player than an inside player. He had a good workout."
Said one assistant GM: "There is going to be a point in the first round where someone is going to say, 'I'm nervous about him, but he by far is the best talent.' "
